DC officially announces "Before Watchmen"

In a move that is undoubtedly both controversial and exciting, DC Entertainment has officially announced a new prequel series to Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' seminal comic book series work "WATCHMEN". Unified under the banner entitled "BEFORE WATCHMEN", seven prequel miniseries will be released that will tell tales that exist within the Watchmen universe, and will feature the likes of J. Michael Straczynski, Andy Kubert, Brian Azzarello, and Darwyn Cooke.

The titles to be released are as follows:

RORSCHACH (4 issues) – Writer: Brian Azzarello. Artist: Lee Bermejo

MINUTEMEN (6 issues) – Writer/Artist: Darwyn Cooke

COMEDIAN (6 issues) – Writer: Brian Azzarello. Artist: J.G. Jones

02.01.2012 – They say power corrupts and that’s basically how it played out throughout the screening of Chronicle. The film is a virtual unknown until you’ll see for yourself. It has some highs and definitely less of the lows. The marketing of this film would be considered below the radar for the general viewing public just like its press media screening which was held today.

There are comparisons for this film but I’d rather call it an inspiration to get a better picture. The story of three boys stumbled upon a mysterious place that would change their life told in the perspective of 1999’s The Blair Witch Project. But there’s certainly something good about this film for anyone who would like to see something fresh all over again.

The Walking Dead Season 3 gets 16 episodes!

Announced by AMC at the Television Critics Association (TCA) last Saturday, and posted in several sites like Comic Book Movie and Superherohype, AMC's third season of their popular survival horror series The Walking Dead will be getting 16 episodes! In addition to revealing a new promo poster that reminds viewers that the 13 episode strong Season 2 will resume with Episode 8 on February 12, the channel has also stated that their international broadcast partner, Fox International Channels, will be following the 16 episode order for Season 3.

Movie Review: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

When the first Sherlock Holmes movie strode into theaters back in holiday season 2009, I was blown away and mesmerized by the sheer brilliance and excellent performances given by its stalwart cast, notably Hollywood icons Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, who portray the titular character Sherlock Holmes and his colleague Dr. John Watson, respectively. In the same vein that Batman Begins and Casino Royale recreated the sagas of The Dark Knight and James Bond, this flick totally gave us a new and wacky interpretation of Mr. Holmes, and his methods are quite eccentric and comedic in nature that it proved to be a good choice by director Guy Ritchie to cast RDJ as the genius sleuth and detective, with the latter riding out his newly acquired fandom thanks to his unprecedented role of Tony Stark in 2008's Iron Man.

I've seen the movie twice to count, once in Hong Kong this past December (making it both films in the series I've seen in HK) and the other this past Thursday for the special advance local premiere, courtesy and thanks to Jay Gonzales and the people of Warner Bros. Philippines. It may be a few weeks late after its initial release in the US, but rest assured, if you're a fan of Guy Ritchie and RDJ's interpretation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's seminal fictitious work, you may want to give this a shot, as it opens today as of this writing in theaters locally. With that said, here's my review of Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows!

Via a scoop at Bleeding Cool and reported by Comic Book Movie, DC Comics and Marvel are going to team up to produce a new 12 issue comic book series that sees The Dark Knight cross paths with your friendly neighborhood Webslinger! Entitled "Spider-Man/Batman", the series will depict the crimefighters interacting with each other through the years, starting with their very first meeting on the 48 page debut issue coming out in April, and eventually spreading out to other adventures through the course of their respective careers. Of course, this isn't the first time the heroes have interacted with one another, as Marvel and DC have made both heroes star in team up books and crossover stories in the 90's (as pictured above). Also, since The Dark Knight Rises and The Amazing Spider-Man are coming out in theaters this year, it's the perfect time for Bruce Wayne and Peter Parker to fight together to blend in with the hype! Another legendary icon in the comic book industry passes away, and now that's two stars who have gone to a better place.

By way of Comic Book Movie, famed comic book writer, artist, editor and publisher Joe Simon, best known as the co-creator of the iconic Marvel Comics' character Captain America, passed away this December 14 at the age of 98. This is sad news to bear, especially after last week's news on the passing of Jerry Robinson, creator of The Joker and another legend in the comic industry.

As a legend in the industry, Simon is well known for his time in Timely Comics (which would become the future Marvel Comics), where he became the company's first editor. He teamed up with the late great Jack Kirby, and went on to create some of the best stories and characters known in comics, among them being the patriotic hero and star-spangled avenger himself, Captain America. Joe also teamed up with Kirby during their tenure on DC Comics, where they would go on to do work on Sandman and co-create the Newsboy Legion. They were pioneers in the field of romance and horror comics, and Joe would also found the satirical magazine series "Sick", which began in the 1960's and last until the 1980's, which was well after his departure from the magazine in the 1970's. His death comes a week after Robinson's, and this is really sad news for fans of his works. However, it's fortunate he was able to see the character he helped co-create get the newest big screen live action film treatment, with this past July's release of Captain America: The First Avenger.

Opening in theaters this week and the coming days ahead depending on your country, the fourth and latest installment of the Mission: Impossible movie series has arrived, and arguably tots more action and intensity than the regular movie buff can take. Once again starring the franchise's figurehead and producer Tom Cruise as agent Ethan Hunt, this blockbuster flick comes just as we're about to say goodbye to 2011, and it certainly brings with it a lot of expectations and excitement at its core. Directed by Brad Bird of Disney Pixar's The Incredibles fame, does this new sequel make the impossible possible once again? Find out as I go through the motions in this review. Via Comic Book Movie, Colombia Pictures has released a new poster of Nicholas Cage's new Ghost Rider film, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Once again reprising his role as the cursed motorcyclist Johnny Blaze, he must once again ride into adventure as his hell spawn alter ego, protecting the lives of a mother and child while facing a new dark threat bent on destroying them. Check out the poster itself, featuring the rider riding and dishing out some hellfire justice.

The film recently premiered at Harry Knowles annual "Butt-Numb-A-Thon" over at the states, and early reviews were generally unfavorable. It won't be until next year still anyway, but that's not a good sign at all. Also, I just recently found out that this IS NOT a sequel to the 2007 Ghost Rider, and as the wikipedia states, a whole new origin sequence will be filmed. It's been a while since I've posted anything on WWE, but today is a good day as any, as a well known and beloved superstar makes his long awaited return!

In last night's episode of WWE Monday Night Raw (December 12, 2011), Kane, the Big Red Machine himself, made his comeback during the highlight match of the night between John Cena and Mark Henry. The latter wrestler and WWE Smackdown's reigning World Heavyweight Champion put The Undertaker's brother out for five months, and since then nobody has heard from the Big Red Monster... until now. December is a big month for fans of Christopher Nolan and Batman. It heralds the release of the much anticipated prologue of "The Dark Knight Rises" with IMAX screenings of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. It also saw the rise of the viral marketing campaign for the movie by Warner Bros, plotting down clues and various interactive material for fans to decipher in order to learn information related to the movie (and in the case of Operation: Early Bird, the locations of early screenings of the prologue).

Now, as mentioned months before and to probably usher in the debut of the new trailer sometime this month, Warner Bros. has released the newest poster for The Dark Knight Rises, and it signals the coming of Bane (played by Tom Hardy), and the end of an era that started in 2005 and skyrocketed with an awesome sequel in 2008. Take a look at the one sheet!

Very nice, and it echoes the promise of Bane "breaking the bat" ala the classic Batman storyline "Knightfall", where The Dark Knight's spine was broken by the brute. Sad news just hit today, and for those who love all things Batman and everything related to his greatest arch-nemesis, The Joker, it's time to pause for a moment and remember a true legend in the world of comics.

Jerry Robinson, the man who is credited for the creation of The Clown Prince of Crime, passed away in his sleep at the age of 89 this Thursday, December 8. The Dark Knight Rises Viral Marketing Begins

Back in 2007, months before "The Dark Knight" was released in theaters on July 2008, Warner Bros. and Christopher Nolan took teasing and fan interaction to the next level by introducing various "viral marketing campaigns". Every one of them, while fictional, purposely served as a cryptic clues and lead ons to the actual movie, ranging from mini online games to actual puzzles and scavenger hunts that sent fans on a solving frenzy, rewarding them in return with scribbles and downright amusing stuff (one reward in particular being the first official image of the late Heath Ledger as The Joker). Now, the legacy continues, as Nolan's next and final Batman film preps up to do the same!

As of today, "The Dark Knight Rises" has now officially started its viral marketing campaign, beginning with a CIA Bulletin that was posted on Wired and features the profile of one Dr. Leonid Pavel (played by Alon Abutbul), and then another on Empire featuring a document that has a transcript of a conversation between a Militia man and a mysterious CIA Staff member.

What these mean and how it relates to the overall plot of TDKR is anybody's guess. More clues are surely on the way... so let the speculation begin for now. In the meantime, look forward to the 6 minute prologue that's going to be attached with IMAX screenings of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol next week, as well as the new trailer coming before the year ends! Next April, two of the greatest teams in the history of Marvel Comics will duke it out!

Announced in Marvel.com, what was teased as the Phoenix Force and the resurrection of Jean Grey has now been revealed as "Avengers vs X-Men", a 12-issue miniseries that will encompass the entire Marvel Universe! The Phoenix Force is returning to earth, and it will choose a new host that will have Earth's Mightiest Heroes clashing with The Uncanny Mutants. With the writing team of Brian Michael Bendis, Jason Aaron, Jonathan Hickman, Ed Brubaker, and Matt Fraction, as well as the artistic talents of John Romita Jr., Olivier Coipel, and Adam Kubert, this is a sure hit series that will get true believers talking for some time to come upon its release next year! Peter "Robocop" Weller joins Star Trek 2 cast!

You knew him as "The Future of Law Enforcement", and he played the role for two movies. Now, via a report from Variety and Comic Book Movie, actor Peter Weller has been added to the cast of J.J. Abrams' next Star Trek Movie!

A veteran actor, thespian, and director, Weller, 64, is best known for his role as officer Alex Murphy/ Robocop, in the 1987 sci-fi cult classic film of the same name. Like recent addition Alice Eve, details about Weller's role in the next Trek film are still under wraps, but this is arguably both a surprise and welcomed addition, and I'm sure fans who remember Murphy will welcome this legendary screen presence with open arms. If you want a taste of his acting chops, here's a scene of him as Robocop in the final act of the movie!

Rurouni Kenshin Live-Action Official Pics Released!

Following up on a first-look scan released a few days ago and via a post at Anime News Network, the staff and makers of next year's upcoming live action adaptation of "Rurouni Kenshin". Also known as "Samurai X" in the US and based on the manga and anime series of the same name created by Nobuhiro Watsuki, the movie will premiere on August, and will star Takeru Satoh of Kamen Rider Den-O fame as the legendary slasher Kenshin Himura himself, with Emi Takei playing his love interest Kamiya Kaoru, who is pictured below.

Sad news came to me just a few minutes ago, and probably the wave of overwhelming nostalgia I'm feeling right now rides up there when EGM initially shut down operations the first time around.

Gamepro, one of the longest running video game magazines in existence, is shutting down operations for good in the US, showing signs of the times and the end of an era. The news, which hit the web instantaneously in sites like Venture Beat as soon as the publication posted the announcement, has sent ripples and shockwaves in the gaming community, and there are certainly a lot of mixed reactions to its sudden and surely inevitable demise. Beginning in 1989, the magazine was slowly going to shift from a monthly publication schedule to a quarterly one, but that doesn't seem to be the case any longer, as parent company IDG has formally announced it will shut down operations. Gamepro's website, which has been in operation for 13 years, will now be absorbed into PCWorld, and will take effect come December 5th.

As with all cease and desist operations, Gamepro's offices will be closed down, and people will be laid off and lose their jobs as a result. In the article by VentureBeat, the shutdown is described as the "creative success not falling in line with business success", and that can be attributed to the times and lack of push the publication industry has because of the influence and presence the internet generates today.

As a gamer and person who grew up in that generation, Gamepro was one of my initial sources for news, walkthroughs, tips, and tricks related to the world of video games. I used to buy a handful of issues back in the day, and I still have said copies stored and kept in my collection. Despite being out of touch with it in recent years, reading this bit of news now has weighed down heavily in my heart, and I feel for those who have remembered the magazine for its contributions to the video game news industry. It may have had its shortcomings compared to the likes of EGM, but it still delivered hot and potentially interesting news to gamers worldwide. Truly, the mag shall be missed. Here's a final salute in the form of an issue cover I had and remember well from the 90's. It was during the 90's console war era, and back then I had a Sega Genesis and played Street Fighter II: Special Championship Edition, with this particular magazine serving as a guide to me. Those were the good ol' days of gaming, which were arguably blissful and simple.

DC The New 52: Justice League #1 gets 5th Printing!

Looks like the relaunch paid off after all!

Via their own blog The Source, DC Comics has announced that Justice League #1, penned by Geoff Johns and illustrated by Jim Lee, has once again gone back to press, and will be now known as the first comic book in The New 52 line to receive five printings. With the fourth issue due just before the holidays in December, this marks a milestone event in relation to the publication's decision to relaunch their comic line, and their flagship team-up book featuring the likes of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman has done immensely well. Each reprint has featured a different cover since release, and one has to wonder how the fifth printing will look like! 11.24.2011 – If you happen to drop by the SMX Convention Center in SM Mall of Asia do check out the exhibit of the local group Diecast Cars Philippines (DCPH) on display outside the Hall 3 which features them as part of Manila Auto Salon 2011: Mad About Styling and Tuning.

The event begins today November 24, 2011 and runs through November 27, 2011. Not only have you seen the real life custom cars on display you get to see the diecast car collectible community participating in this event. They have been part of this auto show for the past few years.

When Marvel Vs Capcom 3 exploded onto the console scene this year, it brought back a lot of that old school flair, nostalgia, and appeal fighting game fans were long craving for. Following the path of Street Fighter IV, it swapped two dimensional graphics in favor or a brush art styled 3D graphics engine, whilst retaining classic 2D brawl gameplay so as not to alienate veterans of the series.

Now, a new "upgrade" of the game has finally been released. Called "Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3", new characters, stages, and gameplay additions have been added to this latest entry of the VS series. It pretty much lives up to the reputation Capcom has garnered with its fighting games by rereleasing them with "updated features" and quirks.

It's November 11, 2011 (or 11-11-11 as it were), and now that I've had some time in my hands, I've finally gotten around to completing the almost 2 week old Zombiethon video compilation that I promised to deliver. In case you missed out what that was all about, here's the 101 again on what transpired!

On October 30, 2011, right in the heart of Makati City Philippines, local zombie fan group Dead Zone organized the second annual "Zombiethon" zombie walk, which was open to all undead lovers and ghoulish fans out there! Being one of those itching to go, I suited up as the main protagonist of AMC's The Walking Dead himself, Sheriff's Deputy Rick Grimes, and proceeded to meet with the rest of the zombie trope in the meeting point located at the heart of Makati City.

While we certainly lacking in number, there were enough zombies to cause panic, terror, and havoc as we treaded in the streets. Joining me along for the fun were guys dressed as Raccoon City survivors Leon S. Kennedy and Hunk from the Resident Evil series. We even had a visit from "Hulk Hogan" himself! The zombies themselves had "interesting" faces in their numbers, including a Silent Hill-like nurse ghoul, kid zombies, and even a zombie that looked like Jesus!

Despite the minimum attendance, everything went great, and I even got to choreograph some scenes for good photo op shots! I'd like to thank the guys at Dead Zone again for organizing Zombiethon 2011, and I'm looking forward to the next event soon! For more info on the group, visit the official Dead Zone Facebook Page!

10.06.2011 - For anyone who has not heard about “Toy Photography” it’s becoming an art form for those who love collecting toys and taking photography as a hobby. The interest started picking during the past two years. Originally the concept has been around as early as the late 1990s to early 2001.

There’s one individual who started taking photos from way back of 2003 and that’s Brian McCarthy. His portfolio shows some interesting kind of inspiration and speaks volumes of emotion that is expressed by his composition. He has released a photo book of his works and still captivates a lot of people getting inspired to try “Toy Photography” as a concept.

Dead Zone presents Zombiethon 2011!

Zombie buffs and lovers in Manila, things are going to get frantic this end of October, as the dead will rise and walk the streets of Makati!

Come October 30, a day before Halloween, Dead Zone, a zombie fan organization based in the Philippines, will host the next installment of "Zombiethon 2011", an event centered at amassing the greatest number of people dressed in their favorite zombie attire and marching on as a mob! The walk this year will take place in Makati City, and as seen in the poster above, the meeting place will be at 6788 Standard Chartered Bldg at Ayala Avenue at 3:00pm!

Personally, I'm a big zombie genre fan, and growing up watching the legendary George Romero's Dead flicks, playing Capcom's BioHazard/ Resident Evil series, and tuning in to AMC's The Walking Dead only got me excited even further when I heard about this event! If you happen to be in Manila and would want to participate in this event, go dress in proper zombie related attire and come hungry... for brains!!! Toy Review: Halo Wars 3 Cortana!

The character’s design was based from Egyptian Queen Nefertiti and has become one of the most disturbingly sexy personalities in the Halo videogames. Cortana’s origin is revealed to be the cloned brain of Dr. Catherine Elizabeth Halsey, the creator of the SPARTAN Project; Halsey's synaptic networks became the basis for Cortana's processors.

McDonald's Philippines unleashes Batman: The Brave and the Bold toys!

Been a while since I posted updates in the site, but there's some good news for Batman collectors who just can't get enough of those wonderful toys!

Last September 27, McDonald's Philippines released their new wave of McDonald's Happy Meal toys for kiddies and patrons to buy and collect - The dual toy sets of Batman: The Brave and The Bold and My Little Pony! Of course, being a Batman fan personally, I had to take a gander at the Brave and the Bold toys yesterday, and they were just sweet! Included in the set are The Jokermobile, Batcopter, Penguin Submarine, and the hilarious hero Plastic Man, so there's four figures/ toys for Batfans to collect. Each toy goes with every McDonald's Happy Meal purchase, and I picked up the Batcopter since, well, it's Batman! Stay tuned for a review of each next time!

09.10.2011 - IPMS Philippines collectively known as International Plastic Modelers Society has been around long before toy groups or any group has been organized. Even internet was not invented yet when this group was founded in 1968.

They have been organizing events annually and this is their 9th year promoting the modeling hobby. In other countries this sort of interest has become a lost art. As most hobbyists prefer action figures and other toys no need of assembly or paint.

09.06.2011 - Collecticon is back and it’s now a two-day event of toys, comics, cosplays and geeks in-between that has been known in the Philippine popular arts and culture scene. Recently the organizers had run a poster making contest which produced this winning one-sheet. It’s very much promising to be part of Collecticon once again.

You the fans asked for it… The organizers obliged and boom! We got two days of Collecticon 2011 heading this October 8-9, 2011 and remember this is FREE entrance since the venue will still be at Robinsons Midtown in Ermita Manila during mall hours.

This will be another big event for the toy collectors and geeks alike. The 1,500 square meter venue tells it all that Collecticon has gotten bigger over the years. There will be more retailer tables with toys, comics, and other collectible merchandises.

GREAT SCOTT! I actually thought this was bogus, but as reported in Slash Film, it's true and it's very real!

Yes, you saw that! Legendary actor Christopher Lloyd participated in an Argentina advertisement and reprised his role as eccentric genius Dr. Emmet Brown from the"Back to the Future"movies! It's a strange advertisement that still has people buzzing as to the true nature of the ad, but the Doc rides and crashes his legendary DeLorean time machine into a Gambarino electronics superstore, so it could probably be a promotion for the shop as well. Look at the viral video below and judge for yourselves!

Movie Reviews: Final Destination 5 and Conan The Barbarian

It can be said that some people go to movies for cheap thrills, spills, and yes even kills. If you're looking into those categories, then I guess these two movies I've seen over the past week and so will contribute nicely to your list to catch in the big screen. They've already been shown over at the US and selected areas for the past few weeks now, but international territories finally have their chance this week. SPOILER WARNING of course for those who avoid reviews. Thanks again goes to the sponsors for giving me a chance to see the first film below, Final Destination 5. As for Conan, I caught that during my spare time, so here are my thoughts on the two features!

Love or hate it, the latest entry in the Final Destination series has something to offer, whether it be scares, paranoia, or amusement over the crazy death scenes happening everywhere in this film. As someone who's barely seen the past films, I went into this one with only bare minimum knowledge of what transpired in the timeline (though each is a separate suspense horror adventure on its own that doesn't owe too much to a previous installment save for the deaths and premonitions). Totted as the film that takes things "back to basics", Final Destination 5 may be seen as the final (pun yes) entry in the series, but it can also be perceived as a springboard for newer installments. It's pretty much the same tale as previous movies - a young kid has a premonition that warns him of impending disaster, and he and his group of friends manage to survive and get away with their lives intact. Unfortunately, cheating death comes with a heavy price, as one by one their borrowed time comes to a sinister and grisly end.

Final Destination 5 Trailer

With a plot like that, it really isn't for the faint of heart. However, those who've been faithful and followed the movies since the first though will be pleased to know they're in for some treats come the climax of this film. Either way, it's a popcorn flick that'll please, and with the moderate reception it has garnered in the box office, it could be the fright fest one is looking for to tease their nerves and test with 3D theaters in mind. Oh yeah, legendary horror movie face Tony Todd is back too, so he'll be sure to creep you out, haha. Rating - 3/5

As the newest iteration of the film starring a heroic barbarian hero who was once played by legendary action star Arnold Schwarzenegger (which was also his first acting breakthrough to note), this new version of Conan the Barbarian has big shoes to fill in terms of legacy and garnering a new fanbase for today's generation of moviegoers. While the concept feels kind of cliche and dated thanks to several medieval fantasy movies and stories that have gone through the decades, I honestly felt content with what I saw despite the mixed to negative reviews this movie has gotten worldwide (essentially making it a flop of sorts in the box office). Starring Jason Momoa (who played Khal Drogo in HBO's excellent TV series adaptation of Game of Thrones) in the lead, the 2011 version of Conan the Barbarian proves to be your typical and straightforward adventure full of swordfighting, magic, sex, and evil. The movie kicks off with an origin tale that shows the titular character's birth, training, and the eventual massacre of his village by evil forces. This tragic experience molds Conan into a powerful but arrogant warrior on a quest for vengeance. Unfortunately, destiny forces him to rise above this narrow-minded calling as he crosses paths with a young maiden (Rachel Nichols), who holds a power inside of her that his adversaries seek to unlock and use for sinister purposes. With something else to fight for other than revenge against his enemies.

Conan The Barbarian 2011 Trailer

Pretty much like I said, this is a popcorn flick for those not looking for serious plots and just empty action to watch and enjoy brainlessly. I could say that there were some "interesting PG-13" moments in this film that could have been done more interestingly, but you can't have them all I guess. Rachel Nichols playing the heroine here was kinda a letdown considering her time as Scarlett in G.I.Joe: The Rise of Cobra. She faired better in that movie, and her talents here looked wasted, especially in the climax. Rose McGowan on the other hand played a nice and creepy villainess, and the way she looked kinda reminded me of Kerrigan from Starcraft. Oh, and Ron Perlman played the father of Conan, plus Morgan Freeman did the narration for the beginning. There isn't any redeeming qualities save for the action really, so that's really what kept me from being disappointed and I just wholeheartedly enjoyed it for that aspect. Khal Drogo FTW! Rating - 3/5

Currently in Marvel Comics' Amazing Spider-Man series, Spider Island is happening. People around Peter Parker's life and the entirety of New York City have been endowed with powers similar to the web-slinging hero, and when all is said and done, nothing will ever be the same again for the Amazing Spider-Man. One such ramification teased is with the latest Marvel teaser to debut for the storyline, which hints at the possible return of a familiar face from Spidey's past. SPOILERS beyond this point, so stop reading NOW if you don't want things ruined for you.

Fans can tell very well who's being teased in this image, and if you don't know who it is, it has to do with a certain clone brother of Pete's from a certain controversial 90's Spider-Man story arc who's making a possible comeback... Coming Soon and SuperheroHype have debuted the first exclusive look at the teaser poster to the new Ghost Rider sequel coming out next year, "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance"! The teaser image shows the gloved hand of Marvel's supernatural antihero, holding his trademark chain and setting some hellfire on it at the same time. It's a tease in every sense of the word, and not a bad poster at all for fans of the franchise to embrace.

Once again starring Nicholas Cage as Johnny Blaze/ Ghost Rider, the adventure takes place several years after the first film, with Blaze placing himself in a self-imposed exile because of his curse. However, he is called back into action by Moreau, a member of the monastic order of Michael, who tasks Blaze with the protection of a mother and child from a person known only as Roarke, who has knowledge of the Ghost Rider and his legend. Warner Bros. has released the official synopsis for Zack Snyder's upcoming Superman reboot, which is entitled "Man of Steel". The film is currently underway and casting calls have been given out in locations in Vancouver Island. Here's the official synopsis below:

“In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.”

From the way it reads out and as noticed by many who share like minded views, the plot sounds awfully like the recently concluded Smallville TV series, which explored Clark Kent's early beginnings and eventual transformation into the heroic icon known as Superman (though that 10 long seasons to fill out, and much of the things depicted there looked more alternate universe-like than actual canon). It'll still be almost a good two years before we see this film in theaters, but it will be interesting nonetheless to see what Zack Snyder and producer Christopher Nolan do with this iteration of the Man of Steel, especially with the notable casting decisions made (particularly Perry White being played by Laurence Fishburne). Movie Reviews: The Smurfs, Cowboys & Aliens, and Crazy Stupid Love

Been a while since I've posted any movie reviews, and there's a couple already on my backlog that needs some reviewin' to be done to 'em. For the past week and so, I've been invited to attend screenings of the movies - The Smurfs, Cowboys & Aliens, and Crazy Stupid Love, and each is of a different genre and category that will (or will not) appeal to individuals hankering for some movie R&R time. Since I'm tackling three different movies this time around, these will just be regulated to mini-reviews and the score. I'll keep things simple, straight to the point, and hopefully a tad more honest and true on how I perceive each of these films on my personal ratings scale. Thanks again goes to the various sponsors for the invites on these screenings!

The Smurfs

Little blue men and Neil Patrick Harris go on an adventure that takes them around New York City which changes their lives for the better. That pretty much sums up what this animated venture based on the old 80's cartoon I and so many other people in the world have grown up with, only it feels a bit kiddy and dated for my tastes now that I'm older. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love The Smurfs for what they are, but their song is EXTREMELY annoying, and plus points goes to the film for actually pointing that out! It's your typical kid movie that you can take the family to for some laughs and cute moments. Worth it in 3D? Kinda, but only if you want to see Papa Smurf and co. kick ass against Gargamel (played by Hank Azaria). Rating - 3/5

Cowboys & Aliens

Now THIS MOVIE I found extremely well made and totally underappreciated. As a film directed by the guy who gave us two Iron Man films, Cowboys & Aliens has an old school western feel to it that totally works for the most part... But the idea of mixing things with extraterrestrials sounds a little bit far fetched and B-Movie like that I can see why most critics and reviewers gave this mixed reviews. Still, I enjoyed this Jon Favreau presentation for what it was, and it had an all-star cast to boot! Leading the charge is Daniel Craig of James Bond fame, playing an amnesiac loner named Jake Lonergan who has a mysterious device attached to his wrist. He partners up with an rich old coot and cynical cattleman named Colonel Woodrow Dolarhyde (played by legendary actor Harrison Ford), and together with a mysterious and beautiful Ella Swan (Olivia Wilde), they take on an army of aliens who kidnap humans for experimentation. Sam Rockwell and Clancy Brown also star in this vehicle, and for the most part the movie has lots of action and Clint Eastwood moments that blend in well somewhat with the Steven Spielberg influenced alien show. Overall, this may not stand tall with the other summer blockbusters out this year, but it gets the job down of presenting a modest and entertaining action film piece, so it's definitely worth checking out. Rating - 4/5

Crazy,Stupid, Love.

Steve Carrell stars in this romantic comedy as Cal Weaver, a man trying to recreate himself when the perfect life he's lived for years is crushed thanks to his wife (played by Julianne Moore) cheating on him and asking for a divorce. Cal is devastated and crushed, and after some nights of hanging out on a bar and unsuccessfully trying to woo women, he's taken under the wing of one womanizing chick boy named Jacob Palmer (Ryan Gosling). Soon, Mr. Weaver learns the trade and his life rebounds back on track, but he still finds himself missing his wife and family. Throughout this tale of love, sex, and cheating, we find reconciliation, humor, and the true meaning of finding a soulmate in the one you care for the most. It's the perfect movie for anybody looking for love and laughs. I bet people will get a kick out of Steve Carrell's silliness, and ladies screaming at Ryan Gosling's hot guy appeal. Rating - 4/5

Whether or not it's going to be called the "Batwing" or "Batplane", the fact is that it's a new ride that looks like a cross between a hovercraft and the Tumbler, and the video below even gives a clear view of Batman in the cockpit! Marvel Teaser: FF Continues this November!

Looks like there will be TWO FF related titles running this November after all.

Via their newest and final teaser image, Marvel has confirmed that not only will the original Fantastic Four title return with its original numbering starting with #600, but the other "FF" title, "Future Foundation", will also be continue to run alongside it. Writer Jonathan Hickman will therefore serve as writer for both titles, with the latter book apparently concentrating on the younger and newer members of the "NEW" Future Foundation! Marvel Teaser: Fantastic Four #600 cover!

Marvel has finally given confirmation that Fantastic Four #600 is indeed happening by unveiling the cover to said issue, as illustrated by artist John Romita Jr.! That pretty much confirms that "Future Foundation" ends and FF reverts back to its original format... But Spider-Man is still present and in the cover! However, what is not definite is whether the Human Torch is indeed returning from the dead... But there's a sure fire chance that he is. This is the fourth tease we've gotten in the past few days, and apparently there's one more coming up as hinted by the original file name sent in for this teaser ""Four_Teaser4of5"! Marvel and Newsarama have released the third teaser to "FOUR", which ushers in another pivotal milestone in the history of the Fantastic Four, or better known currently as the "Future Foundation" with Spider-Man as a replacement member for the recently deceased Human Torch. However, the new teaser by above as drawn by Joe Quesada confirms or suggests that Johnny Storm will be back in full force this November, suggesting that FF will reformat once more back to Fantastic Four just in time for issue #600 that month. To dispel speculation, two other teasers were shown previously, one with just the "4" logo, and the other showing the current roster for the Future Foundation. Marvel Teaser: The New Dark Avengers...

Marvel Comics' has been having a busy week releasing all these juicy teasers for November, and the latest one has to do with the return of Norman Osborn and a new iteration of his infamous Dark Avengers! In the aftermath of Secret Invasion, the civilian identity of the maniacal Green Goblin rose to power, usurping control of national security from Tony Stark/ Iron Man and leading the forces of a reformatted S.H.I.E.L.D agency which became known as H.A.M.M.E.R (what that stands for is still shrouded in mystery). Osborn eventually donned the identity of the "Iron Patriot" (an amalgamation of Captain America and Iron Man) and became leader of a new iteration of Avengers, or "Dark Avengers" as they were better known to readers. Now, Marvel is set to introduce them again this November in the pages of New Avengers #18. Check out the teaser pic below, courtesy of Marvel.com and Newsarama.

Yes, who exactly are these new Dark Avengers?

Obviously from the image alone, all we can see is Osborn pointing ala Uncle Sam. Who else will be in the team remains a mystery, but I'm sure it'll have a Hulk, Spider-Man, and Hawkeye judging from the shadowy figures behind the villain. Paul W.S. Anderson confirms Resident Evil: Retribution

Love or hate it, the Resident Evil (aka Bio Hazard in Japan) movie franchise earned big bucks with its last entry, "Resident: Evil Afterlife". As a longtime fan of the series, the films by Paul W.S. Anderson have absolutely nothing to do with the games, save for porting characters, monsters, and the Umbrella Corporation elements and using them for his own interpretation of the concept. As I noted in my review of the last film, my initial disappointment in the franchise soon turned to respect for the continuity he has built up for the series. Now, the director is set to return with a fifth installment, which his wife and the main star of the movies, Milla Jovovich, called "Resident Evil: Retribution", and it's been confirmed by Anderson himself that is definitely the film's title.

As posted in Bloody Disgusting and Cinema Blend, Paul W.S. Anderson is slated to direct and work on RE: Retribution for a September 14, 2012 release. It will see Jovovich back in the role of Alice, as she works her way from Toronto to Tokyo to battle and put an end to the Umbrella Corporation once and for all. Also expected to return is actress Sienna Guillory, who played the live action version of the well known Resident Evil/ Bio Hazard heroine Jill Valentine. Guillory was last seen in a cameo appearance in Afterlife as Jill with a mind controlling device in her chest, mimicking her position and fate in the events of the video game Resident Evil 5. UPDATE: It seems that they're bringing out the rest of the other "RE Character veterans" into this, as Bloody Disgusting also mentioned in their article that Retribution is looking to cast actors for the roles of "Barry Burton" and "Leon Scott Kennedy", two VERY WELL KNOWN figures in the RE Game mythos (especially the latter, who is the main hero in Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4). Also, the role of Jill MAY be recast, but we won't know til future updates arrive.

Thanks to Facebook, YouTube, and Comic Book Movie, I have learned that one of the most awesome and non-mutant characters of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' franchise is getting his own film... Fan made of course, but it's still a big deal! Casey Jones, the hockey mask wearing buddy and friend of the turtles, is getting the spotlight treatment courtesy of filmmakers Hilarion Banks and Polaris Banks, with the former playing as Casey himself! Here's the trailer to this live action fan spectacle, and it's a mighty impressive endeavor I must say!

As a TMNT fan from way back, I'm very impressed with what I see here. It's kinda like a cross between Rocky and Batman Begins, but with the atmosphere reminiscent of the Turtles' live action films, only much darker (heck, there's even a cameo appearance by one of the heroes in a half shell here!). No dialogue is uttered in the trailer whatsoever, but the music and scenes tell you more than enough it's going to be a realistic take and kickass origin story of the "Goongola, Goongola!" crimefighter and vigilante! It's too bad I won't be able to see it for myself when it premieres on August 14 on Austin TX, but fortunately the fan film will premiere online after that! Rumor: Is this the "Man of Steel" Teaser Poster?

Like Comic Book Movie, I'm adding this to the rumor mill.

What you see here is what's being claimed to be THE "teaser poster" for Warner Bros. next Superman reboot flick, tentatively titled "Man of Steel". After weeks of big news highlights from the Zack Snyder directed film that includes Laurence Fishburne being cast as Perry White and the first official photo of Henry Cavill as Superman, this "teaser" shows up and is making the rounds in the interwebz. Despite the somewhat convincing layout and Batman Begins inspired set up, I'm not 100% about this at all. Judge for yourselves whether the "Grounded" inspired shot works as an official tease. Following up on that Fantastic Four #1 50th Anniversary post, it looks like Marvel is bringing the band back together this November, and just in time for the team's 600th issue if they decide to put the original number scheme back in place.

As posted by the likes of Newsarama and Bleeding Cool, this teaser for "FOUR" hints that the Fantastic Four will be reformed/ reunited/ reassembled. After the Human Torch gave up his life in the pages of Fantastic Four #587, the team was reformatted into the FF or "Future Foundation", and saw the inclusion of Spider-Man as a member to honor the Torch's memory. Now, with November fast approaching, it looks like a resurrection is in place for Johnny Storm... or it could symbolize the return to basics and bring back the blue and black tights with the "4" firmly in place again. Personally, I hope the Torch returns, and they reintegrate the original members back as they were always meant to be... As Marvel's First Family! 50 years ago today, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby made history by creating one of the most definitive comic books of all time. On August 8, 1961, Marvel Comics published and released Fantastic Four #1 to the general public, bringing together a ragtag band of heroes who were endowed with powers after being exposed to irradiated cosmic rays in a ill-fated space mission! From then on, Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm would be forever changed, and they would be known respectively as Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, The Human Torch, and the ever lovin' blue-eyed Thing! Together they were Marvel's First Family... The Fantastic Four!
