Get To Know The World of Dr. Seuss' The Lorax!

03.06.2012 – The Lorax is the fourth creation of Dr. Seuss to be made into the big screen (behind The Grinch who stole Christmas, Horton Hears a Who!, and Cat in the Hat). It’s the 33rd book that was published in 1971. The animated film produced by Illumination Entertainment and was released by Universal Pictures premiered on March 2, 2012 in North America to commemorate the 108th Birthday of Dr. Seuss (who passed away in 1991).

Originally the book that Dr. Seuss wrote was adapted into a musical television special first aired in CBS on February 14, 1972. The line about Lake Erie was spoken by one of the Humming-Fish as they marched out of the river at the foot of the Once-ler's factory. It remains in DVD releases of the show, even though the line was later removed from the book.

The much anticipated 3D-CG adaptation of the classic tale of a forest guardian who shares the enduring power of hope is from Illumination Entertainment's first film presented in IMAX 3D (known as "IMAX Tree-D" in publicity for the film).

This is the third Dr. Seuss feature film released by Universal, after How the Grinch Stole Christmas and The Cat in the Hat.

The ensemble voice cast is led by Danny Devito playing the acerbic yet charming character who fights to protect his world with Ed Helms as the enigmatic Once-ler. Rounding up the cast with Zac Efron who takes his voice talent as Ted the idealistic youth who searches for the Lorax, and Grammy Award winner Taylor Swift as Audrey, the girl of Ted’s dreams and love interest.

To complete the cast of characters the movie also has Rob Riggle (The Hangover, Big Miracle) as the villain O’Hare, Jenny Slate as Ted’s protective mother, and beloved veteran actress Betty White as Ted’s wise Grammy Norma.

The premise of the animated feature film is loosely based on the book by Dr. Seuss which chronicles the plight of the environment and the Lorax, who speaks for the trees against the greedy Once-ler. As in most Dr. Seuss works, most of the creatures mentioned are original to the book. The book is commonly recognized as a fable concerning industrialized society and the danger it poses to nature, using the literary element of personification to give life to industry as the Once-ler (whose face is never shown in any of the story's illustrations or in the television special) and the environment as The Lorax.

“Dr. Seuss: The Lorax” opens across the Philippines on March 14, 2012 from Universal Pictures to be distributed by Solar Entertainment Corporation.
