Life-Size Macross Valkyrie Unveiled for the 30th Anniversary!

05.03.2012 – It’s been thirty years since we first saw Hikaru Ichijo (Rick Hunter in the North American version of Robotech) take flight in his VF-1J Valkyrie in the original Macross series shown in Japan which also had other Asian countries started airing this beloved anime.

In celebration of its 30th Anniversary of the famed anime franchise there was news going around surrounding a Macross-themed exhibition in the Shibuya but rumors died down without any confirmation if it would push through.

But in Shunshine City shopping complex in Ikebukuro, Tokyo they unveiled a Macross celebration of their own. The centerpiece of which is a 1/1 scale (18 meter long) mock up of the famed transforming VF-25F Messiah Valkyrie fighter jet that appeared in “Macross F”.

The 30th Anniversary of the Super Dimension Macross Valkyrie exhibition has already started exhibit last April 28 and ends on May 6, 2012. Images provided by MANTANWEB gives us a view of the full scale “Messiah Valkyrie.”

There’s a Ranka Lee and Lynn Minmay life-size statue also on display and the "diva" such as Sheryl Nome figure also makes an appearance. The full-size "VF-25F" was supervised by Mr. Hidetaka who worked with director Shoji Kawamori, Tenjin illustrator, and with the design of the hands and the cockpit which was reproduced.

This is includes the parts of the nose and arms at the venue which you’ll be able to enjoy having your pictures taken standing in the palm of the robot. It’s far better than just admiring the view in seeing the life size Gundam standing in Shibuya.

The exhibition was held in Exhibition Hall A Sunshine City in Ikebukuro, also in addition to boast the event a commemorative photo exhibit was set up, such as the image of the school Bisei that appeared in "Macross F". There’s a chronology of history that is also on display which also includes a list of figures 6 meters long that gives us a 30-year history of the franchise.

The next exhibit will be on June 1, 2012 for 3 days which will be held at a special venue at the Centrair Chubu International Airport in Tokoname, Aichi Prefecture. Following this exhibit it will be held next in Osaka, Osaka at the venue, which includes the foot part of the "VF-25F full-scale form “Gau~oku" will also be on display.
