The regeneration of the Super Robots won’t happen until towards the late 1980s with Voltron (originally known as Go Lion) and the re-airing of Voltes V and Daimos on local television. Originally Voltes V and Tōshō Daimos was part of “Robot Romance Trilogy.”
But only a few hardcore fans know about the supposed saga which involved another Super Robot series in Chōdenji Robo Combattler V which was re-aired in the Philippines in the 2000s. The predecessor of Voltes V didn’t gain more popularity until all 54 episodes was shown once again by GMA Network.
Unlike Voltes V which is different from typical super robot anime of the time in that it illustrates human sentimentality and common values, with underlying themes such as the love of family, equality, selfless sacrifice, team work, and patriotism. Where Combattler V’s plot is less than into a serious tone and more of a comedic storyline for reason it was a bit campier.
Combattler V was less popular in the Philippines but a few might contest that discussion being Voltes V’s predecessor. He’s more like a prototype concept for the next series which was produced by “Saburo Yatsude” with director Tadao Nagahama.
Rarely do we see anything new about Combattler V until a video online by a Japanese vendor Korayaku Sangyo went viral in promoting their Panchinko Chōdenji Robo Combattler V game. The video you’ll see will change the perspective about Combattler V and maybe in the future we’ll see a remake of this series
The promotional video of the song was rearranged to a more up-tempo rock number tune for the 2012 version of the opening theme compared to the original opening theme performed by Ichiko Mizuki and The Blessen Four.
The 2012 versions were performed by Tk +9 Factory which also features newer animation of the opening theme. There was also a new song that features a feel cool dance tune by Asaba Rio & Satsy title “Battlefield” that’s more like a Gundam opening theme.
