SDCC 2012: Whilce Portacio & Image Comics Celebrate 20 Years!

07.17.2012 – The recently concluded San Diego Comic-Con International has left with launches on unveils and surprises that definitely would entice us to join our collective group of friends for the next one as one of our good friends who represented us in the coverage for this year.

There’s one that won’t be left unnoticed and for 20 years they have been around being the “Dr. Pepper in the triumvirate with Coke and Pepsi” in the comic book industry and that’s Image Comics. If you grew up following the seven founders released their creator owned comic books then you know the rest.

Image Comics celebrating 20 years is not just about going back in reminiscing its beginnings but it’s about looking forward to their future as they changed the landscape of the industry since they started this company.

MTV Geek was there and they had the opportunity to speak with the three out of the seven founding fathers of of Image Comics in Whilce Portacio, Jim Valentino, and Marc Silvestri.

Beside the celebration the founders of Image Comics was given each the InkPot Award which Whilce Portacio shared after the Image Comics panel at Comic-Con. Whilce Portacio the Filipino born now based in California represents the Philippines with Pride.

His works are still inspiring and this digital artwork of Judge Dredd will be used as a cover for an upcoming book is definitely awesome.

Congratulations to Image and here’s to another 20 years of great creator owned comics!
