ICCON 2012: The Pop Culture Event in Iloilo City!

12.02.2012 – The FIRST Iloilo Comic Con was a success featuring the best artists from Manila and based in this region which was held earlier today at the Robinsons Place Iloilo.

The special guest featured comic book artists based in Manila with Gerry Alanguilan, Manix Abrera, Carlo Vergara, Heuber Khan Michael, Aaron Felizmenio, Carlo Pagulayan, Wilson Tortosa, Stephen Segovia and Danny Acuna. Black Pearl Philippines was also present for the cosplay judging and more!


The event also featured Iloilo’s talented artists in Art Geroche and Ric Isiderio as well as the creators and organizers of Comic Parks.

The biggest pop culture event in Western Visayas the Iloilo Comic Con or abbreviated as ICCON is the first to be supported by the Department of Tourism as well as their local government headed by the Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.

The event has band performances (featuring Breach of Fate & Fugitive), trivia contest which they gave some cool prizes from their supportive sponsors, guest panel discussions, exhibitors, cosplay, and the usual ingredients in making a convention. This also featured local groups and organizations like the Iloilo Toy and Comic Collectors, Iloilo Bloggers, United Painters of Iloilo, University of Iloilo, Galaxy Animations, Red Cross which had a “Sketch for a Cause” campaign and other local based publishers like Sneeze Magazine.















The two thirds of Komikon were present and have a table which features some of the best komiks that was produced and released in Manila. The other exhibitors based in Manila that were present are Pinoy Animag, Guhit Pinoy Inc, and Glass House Graphics.

There were a few publications that are also based in Iloilo which released its komiks in “Sinda” under the Comics Park publication which also organized ICCON. The other two publications are Ice Cream Indie from Bacolod City and Oh No Manga which was also seen during Komikon 2012 last October. The banners were all over the venue where the event closed with the cosplay walk featuring the passionate Iloilo based cosplayers.















Comic Book Creation Contest was one of the main campaigns of the event to promote the interest in Iloilo City which has a potential in producing home grown talents based in the Western Visayas. Around the city banners of the event were also seen along the streets signifies that pop culture scene is very much alive in Iloilo City.

Black Pearl Philippines led by Hank Sparrow and Karen Kunawicz were the judges for the cosplay contest towards the tail end of the event which also the awarding for the winners of the Comic Book Creation Contest as well as the Pinoy Superhero Creation Contest.
