Happy Meal Spotlight: SpongeBob's Friends!

03.04.2013 – This month of March McDonald’s brings you the latest Happy Meal toys in SpongeBob SquarePants. Originally released in North America mid-2012 and they came out with sixteen different characters in its first run.

Usually the ones that came out from North America makes it to Australia and parts of Asia but not completely intact. The maximum characters or toys they released is eight figurines depends on which region you’re in Asia its still a modest number compared to other competing fast food restaurants.

McDonald’s in the Philippines usually release the new toys a week before the start of the new month. The spotlights for this month’s SpongeBob Square Pants toys are the characters which make up his world.

If you missed collecting the April 2012 release that puts SpongeBob in different jobs as a Astronaut or an Office worker this puts more variety in getting the other characters such as Mr. Krabs, Sandy Cheeks, Squidward, and his best friend in Patrick Star. The other four figurines that came out along with these characters are SpongeBob depicted in different sports as the theme of the series was a tribute to the Olympics last year.

The individual inhabitants of the Bikini Bottom also participates in the Olympic-themed toys like SpongeBob’s best friend Patrick Star which depicts him a Spinner where Astronauts where put to the test.

Sandy Cheeks in the other hand is in the Rocket Boat which is one of the bigger toys for this Happy Meal aside from “Patrick Spinner.” Sandy’s Rocket Boat has a pull back action which is the usual gimmick for these kinds of toy vehicles.

Mr. Krabs has a simple gimmick since he’s in a fencing stance holding his cooking spatula. But what are interesting about the proprietor of the Krusty Krab Restaurant are the details of the figurine with its life-like animated colors.

Lastly Squidward Tentacles takes the spotlight as a tennis player with multiple arms. He has the action feature similar to Mr. Krabs. But don’t make this figure fool you for its fine details because the downside about Squidward is the figure top heavy and doesn’t stand properly in some rough surface.

The most sought after in the series for this month’s Happy Meal is Patrick Spinner and Sandy’s Rocket Boat followed by Mr. Krabs and Squidward.

If you’re selective with the growing SpongeBob Happy Meal collection and not entirely after completing the line all you need is one SquarePants to have the crew which depicts in his soccer uniform and having Plankton strap to his ball.

SpongeBob SquarePants Olympics Theme is March 2013 toys available in all McDonald’s outlets in the Philippines. For more LIKE McDo Philippines on Facebook and follow on Twitter at: @McDo_PH
