SDCC 2013: Don Rosa takes Bill Finger Award!

07.22.2013 – Don Rosa is a well known artist best known for illustrating the world of Walt Disney’s Ducks that have Donald and Uncle Scrooge in the comic book publication. He took over the legendary Carl Barks in 1986 in making great art continuing the adventures of your favorite ducks.



His meticulous, carefully researched work caught on big, at first in America and then overseas, where he was hailed for expanding on the foundation laid by Barks. Don Rosa has been the man behind the world of Donald and Uncle Scrooge gets recognized.

Don Rosa along with artist Steve Gerber where given the Bill Finger Award, created in 2005 at the instigation of comic book legend Jerry Robinson. Each year, the awards committee selects two recipients—one living and one deceased—who have produced a significant body of work in the comics field.



The award giving body named after William Finger (1914–1974), who was the first, and some say most important, writer of Batman. Many have called him the “unsung hero” of the character and have hailed his work not only on that iconic figure, but on dozens of others, primarily for DC Comics. The Finger Award recipients are chosen by a committee chaired by Mark Evanier, and the awards are presented at the Eisner Awards ceremony.

Don Rosa who a fan of the inhabitants of Duckberg namely Donald Duck and Scrooge McDuck (Created by Carl Barks) followed the footsteps of the legendary artist that inspired him to become the comic book artist popularly known in Europe.



He was the recipient of the Eisner Award for "Best Serialized Story" for The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck, a 12 chapter story about his favorite character.

Rosa’s contribution to the inhabitants of Duckberg most notably Uncle Scrooge McDuck was given recognition during the Bill Finger Award during the San Diego Comic-Con International that recently concluded over the weekend.
