PRESS RELEASE: The Dark World Grosses P199.84M!

11.04.2013 – If you haven’t seen Thor: the Dark World maybe it’s time you see it which is now playing in cinemas. It’s far better than you expected and could be one of the best films for the year 2013. Captain America: The Winter Soldier won’t be out until 2014 and you still have the chance to see this one first.

The word of mouth is not enough to convince you to see it? Maybe you should know that it’s currently conquering the Philippine cinemas with its great story, visuals, and performance by the cast that’s being talked about during the weekend.


Announcement where sent out to that Thor: The Dark World has conquered Philippine cinemas and Walt Disney Studios released this press release…

Marvel Studios' “Thor: The Dark World” thundered to the top of the Philippine box office this week, lifting the All Saints/Souls Day weekend frame (Oct 30 to Nov 3) to the highest in history – a staggering P199.84-million in five days.

The epic sequel on the Mighty Avenger also hammered the record for the biggest October opening day ever at P43.4-million (established Oct 30, 2013) and biggest November opening weekend all-time surpassing previous holder “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part II’s” P197-million.




This was announced today by Victor R. Cabrera, managing director of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Philippines.

Putting these figures into perspective, “Thor: The Dark World” opened stronger than recent superhero films, including the first “Thor” (P60-M), “Captain America: The First Avenger” (P91-M), “The Dark Knight Rises” (P99-M) and “Amazing Spider-Man” (P143.6-M).

The Chris Hemsworth-starrer also reached significant milestones such as the sixth biggest all-time opening weekend, third highest opening ever for a Disney-released title (after “Iron Man 3” and “Marvel's The Avengers”) and fourth most successful debut for a Marvel film (coming off “Iron Man 3,” “Spider-Man 3” and “Marvel's The Avengers”).




Internationally, “Thor: The Dark World” took in a sensational $109.4M from 36 markets led by $13.4M in the U.K. It is scheduled to bow in the US Nov. 8.

Back in the Philippines, the film rolled out in some 490 screens with SM North EDSA taking the largest share with P10.76-M in gross, followed by SM Mall of Asia (P10.57-M) in second, and Trinoma (P9.57-M), third.

Making up the Top Ten cinemas are SM Megamall (P8.57-M), Glorietta 4 (P6.27-M), Newport (P6.09-M), SM Cebu (P5.61-M), Alabang Town Center (P5.07-M), Greenbelt 3 (P4.72-M) and Power Plant (P4.41-M).




Occupying the 11th to 20th slots are Eastwood (P4.40-M), Greenhills (P4.28-M), SM Southmall (P4.12-M), SM Aura (P4.08-M), SM Fairview (P3.67-M), Robinsons Magnolia (P3.33-M), Gateway (P3.15-M), SM Clark (P2.88-M), Shang Cineplex (P2.87-M) and Market! Market! (P2.81-M).
