PRESS RELEASE: Shakespeare in Asia's “have thy Will.”

12.04.2013 – Shakespeare in Asia will be held by University of the Philippines International Shakespeare Conference is a two-day conference, that engages several aspects of Shakespearean pedagogy, publication, translation, adaptation, and theatrical histories in various Asian locations.

It features leading Shakespearean scholars from Taiwan, Japan, India, Korea, the United States, and the Philippines, and Filipino directors and playwrights who have produced and written adaptations of Shakespearean texts.


Part of the scheduled event there will also be a staging of “have thy Will,” an original, all-Filipino production that re-imagines selected Shakespearean sonnets and the stories that they tell, will be staged at the UP Teatro Hermogenes Ylagan at 6 PM on December 6, 2013. The single show closes the first University of the Philippines International Shakespeare Conference on Shakespeare in Asia.

Devised and directed by Ron Capinding, the piece bridges poetry and drama to create an exciting new interpretation of the sordid loves and complicated relationships immortalized in Shakespeare's sonnet cycle. The cast includes Teroy Guzman, Ricky Abad, Frances Makil-Ignacio, and Dolly de Leon.

Participants of the Shakespeare in Asia conference will receive tickets to the performance as part of their registration. For others who want to watch the play, a very limited number of tickets will be available for sale at the gate.
