Sights & Highlights: Kyoto Inferno Press Media Event!

08.07.2014 – Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno gala premiere last night was unprecedented with the support from the Japanese embassy down to the fans that came to see the lead stars and the director of the films.

It was one of the most successful and organized red carpet screenings that Warner Bros. Picture Philippines ever have accomplished that feature the stars of the movie. The big turnouts for the Rurouni Kenshin erasing the fans mixed reactions not seeing this studio bring this film locally in 2012

In the west Ruruoni Kenshin is titled Samurai X for those who have seen the first live action film, but never got the chance to see the animated series. It was aired in the Philippines sometime in the late 1990s to early 2000s via a cable channel and some private screenings when anime has not made it to mainstream status.

In 2012 the first live action film was released but not by Warner Bros. Pictures, which sparked mixed reactions why they decided not distribute it to the country. But those doubts that there won’t be a market for this film have changed when it was exclusively being shown to SM Cinemas only. Fast forward to the present Rurouni Kenshin have big followers in the Philippines. It’s one of the most watched shows on local television and still being syndicated by some cable channels in Asia

The festivities didn’t start until the organizers have advised all media that the cast and director won’t be passing the cinema’s entrance rather taking a short cut to avoid the traffic forming along the way. There was a stage set in front of the screen where radio personality and host Andre Co of Monster Radio RX93.1 introduced the cast and director.

Reception of the crowd has overwhelmed the cast and director like rock stars as the Filipinos fans definitely showed their appreciation to Rurouni Kenshin. It’s not every special screening you see the people behind the production would be present to share their enthusiasm in making this films.

Andre interviewed the cast that has Takeru Satoh (Himura Kenshin), Emi Takei (Kamiya Kaoru), Munetaka Aoiki (Sagara Sanosuke), and director Keishi Ōtomo. There are also fans who have asked questions for the guests.

But their initial reaction seeing the fans was a surprise even Munetaka Aoiki could not believe how well received the Rurouni Kenishin films to the Philippines and he felt like a rock star interacting with the crowd. It was definitely a treat for them to see how popular how RK is outside of Japan. This was definitely a treat to long time fans which have read the manga series, have seen the TV series, and OVA (Original Video Anime).

This is just the sequel to the much adored 2012 film and the third film won’t be out until next month. The fans that have first seen Kyoto Inferno before its regular showing until two weeks from this date will definitely be taking it to the social media their initial reaction.

Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno is produced by Warner Bros. Japan and distributed in the Philippines by Warner Bros. Picture Studios in partnership with SM Cinemas in SM Megamall, where the advance screening was shown exclusively for the press media. The regular screening of the film will on August 20, 2014 in Philippine theaters nationwide.
