| 03.08.2015 – It’s okay to be late but not too late wrapping things up before starting fresh. Comic books these days have a quick turn over when it comes to creative teams moving to other projects that the publisher starts with a new #1.
It has become a common thing for this to happen these days that it can be compared to basketball players moving to other teams unless your Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowizki or Tim Duncan. But the analogy is there explaining with Matt Fraction and David Aja’s run for 22 issues and an annual was something to appreciate how they brought Hawkeye t prominence in almost three years. Now All-New Hawkeye #1 is finally out and you’re wondering if Fraction and Aja’s run is over. Yes it is and the culmination of making Hawkeye an interesting read will finally bow out next month. But if you missed on all the things Clint Barton is doing while not around with the Avengers the compilation of four volumes will give you an idea why its one of the must reads at mighty Marvel. |
Right now the new series usher a creative team that includes Jeff Lemire and Ramon Perez. For those unfamiliar creative Jeff Lemire who also wrote Green Arrow for DC Comics had a steady hand in introducing Animal Man when the company restarted with the New 52, while Ramon Perez is a multiple award winning cartoonist best known for his graphic novel adaptation of Jim Henson’s Tale Of Sand for publisher Archaia Entertainment.
So Perez work present a fresh look at Clint Barton and Kate Bishop aka “Team Hawkeye” in this new maiden voyage written by the same guy who also had a hand with DC Comics’ premier marksman.
The cover for the first issue takes a different direction how the previous creative team represents Clint Barton and this time accompanied with Kate Bishop they are in a pickle surrounded with hordes of Hydra Soldiers in a far off place somewhere Antartica. In the middle of the battle you get to see how Clint and Barney Barton is revealed though flashbacks, which is as impressive as how Ramon Perez has done a good job in the visual department. The new series carries the same brand of humor that was established in the previous series only this time it takes Hawkeye fans deep to Clint’s psyche as a foster child and how he was being raised.
Jeff Lemire has pretty big shoes to fill and this only the first issue, and establishing how he takes the character in a new direction takes time. But from the very first few pages its already giving you hints where Clint is going and how Kate becomes more than just another hero who bares the “Hawkeye” name.
For Ramon Perez he’s not upgrade but something to look forward to in the next few months, while the curtains is slowly rolling down on the previous success in bringing Clint Barton to new readers unfamiliar to the character. There’s a new door opening for those who gets another chance at getting to know who Clint Barton and the cast of the All-New Hawkeye series.
