Halloween ComicFest | Highlights & Recap

10.27.2019 – Saturday was another busy weekend with A LOT of Halloween-related events all over the places in Metro Manila. But in every Fully Booked store there was Halloween ComicFest an annual event for kids and young adults to receive ONE FREE comicbook without purchase as their alternative treat for their “Trick or Treat.”

It is also an excuse to curb up the sweets in a healthy way possible to take home an interesting comicbook or graphic novel that features their favorite four-color characters from Archie Andrews to Sonic the Hedgeho or adult oriented characters like Batman, Ghost Rider, and stories by Japanese Manga Author Junji Ito.

This might be a small scale version of Free Comic Book Day with a Halloween theme in mind, but this year was a bit underrated due to other ‘Halloween Activities’ being held in various shopping centres all over the metro.

But for those who never forget to pass by Fully Booked to pick-up any of the titles for this year give yourself a pat in the back. There were so many happenings just for Saturday, but Halloween ComicFest at Fully Booked flagship store continues to expand the idea and get kids and parents interested.

The activities last Saturday was not only limited to getting Free Comics or seeing a large group people dressed up as characters from Spider-Vere, the academy awarded animated feature film that also have some based from the comicbooks published by Marvel. There were also special discounts in all Fully Booked stores, but the main event is always held at the flagship store.

For those uninitiated on what happened here are a list of Event Activities below:

• FREE (3) Halloween ComicFest per Customer
• Filipino Story Telling for Kids by Adarna House
• Comic Odyssey Lucky Pick (with minimum purchase)
• Spider-Con 2019 (Spider-Verse PH Cosplay Gathering)

FREE (3) Halloween ComicFest per Customer

When you enter the Fully Booked flagship store there’s this long table with the big poster at the middle of the store’s atrium that shows the event and a diverse Halloween-themed titles that you choose from.

For every Fully Booked store you can get ONE FREE COMICS, but for the flagship stores you get THREE FREE COMICS and unlike the past years there were still A LOT of titles choose from past 2 PM last Saturday. You also take ONE FREE BOOKMARK too from five designs from Viz Comics.

Filipino Story Telling for Kids by Adarna House

Adarna House promoting story telling for kids was the newest addition of activity for this year’s HCF with sponsor Jelly Belly that most would confuse the mascot for the Kool-Aid Man when it’s not facing you.

There were majority of kids anxious to hear the story and most of them were being asked if they speak in Filipino? Because the books are written in Tagalog and the featured titles that were read in front of the group of kids are “Bru-Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha, Bru-Hi-Hi-Hi-Hi-Hi” by Ma Corazon Remigio, and Luis and the “Enchanted Creatures” by Marcy Dans Lee which is also available at Fully Booked.

Comic Odyssey Lucky Pick (with minimum purchase)

For this event only, Comic Odyssey had a ‘Lucky Pick’ for those spending PHP 1,000.00 pesos or more and take home some cool patches, pins, or even mini-posters that were only given away in the US comic-conventions.

Oddly enough casual customers were completely unaware of this little promo at Comic Odyssey and this is not including the special promo that Fully Booked is also running in this event too. There were no artist alley this year or even trivia, but there are also FREE candies for kids with no purchase necessary.

Besides the promos and freebies they also have 20% off on their back issue bins that you might find it interesting to ‘dig-in’ for those nostalgic issues that you may or may not be missing in your collection. There are hidden gems in there that you might find it interesting and in case you missed out they might have something for you there.

Spider-Con 2019 (Spider-Verse PH Cosplay Gathering)

Perhaps, it may not be the most interesting photo in this coverage but it sure gives you a lively vibe that this could be the biggest Spider-Fan ensemble you’ll probably never heard of if you just didn’t go up to the fourth level of the Fully Booked store.

There’s a variety of webheads gathering there for one big photo opportunity and if you think the black costume that Spider-Man has worn that became the Lethal Protector named Venom alienates you then you’re not alone being the outside under dressed for the occasion. But you’ll appreciate the passionate perspective for these individuals who really showed up for the Spider-Party.

Lastly, another successful HalloweenComic Fest amidst a ton of Halloween-related themed events last Saturday and this would be great if parents have a vague idea that their kids could be part of this event.

If you missed out there’s another one next year since this has been an annual event organized by Fully Booked with Comic Odyssey at the big store. But for the other Fully Booked branches it is a treat to get your kids into comicbooks as the best alternative for those sweets.
