Robotech Remix #1 | Dana in the Mix

10.24.2019 – Robotech Remix is a brand new jumping point alternative to follow the adventures of Dana Sterling. For those who never knew who this character was, she is actually the daughter of Max Sterling (Maximilian Jenius in the original Japanese series) and Miriya Parina (Milia Fallyna Jenius) from the original Robotech series, a Western adaptation of three Japanese anime series produced by Harmony Gold beginning with Super Dimension Fortress Macross.

Dana Sterling originally appeared in Robotech: Masters Saga (Southern Cross), But with Titan Comics acquiring the rights to produce brand new retelling of the Robotech Series from Harmony Gold they change some of the narratives of the series that represents the American adaptation in a refreshing perspective for writers to expand these stories in these graphic novels.

Outside North America, Robotech was only aired in some parts of Asia particularly in the Philippines in the late 1980s on the GMA Network on Sunday afternoon as the original Macross dubbed in English that was shown on local television was aired on RPN9 in 1983 predating the US adaptation that was for a western audience.

But the comicbook series today would give a renewed insight into the Robotech series published by Titan Comics as the latest title focuses on a time-displaced Dana Sterling during the First Robotech War.

Casual fans that never saw the original airing of the Robotech Series have the option to jump into Remix as the story focuses on Dana Sterling as the reader’s point of view as the narrative unfolds on her interactions with the classic characters from the original Macross series. But for those who want to find out where she first appeared, it goes back to the Robotech Free Comic Book Day 2019 issue that was given away last 4 May 2019.

But the brief history of Dana Sterling, she was considered an anomaly from an alternate future that was revealed in the FCBD 2019 Robotech one-shot. The character gives a fresh look on the series in Robotech Remix #1 written by Brenden Fletcher (Motor Crush/Isola) and artwork by Elmer Damaso (Robotech/Voltron)

In the first few pages, this might have a bit of confusion about how Dana ends up being there and trying to find her way back to her own timeline while being part of this crew. But Fletcher’s script slowly gives you clarity of the story with Elmer Damaso providing an impressive artwork that draws new readers who are into watching anime or reading manga. The variable fighter designs and how the action unfolds are superb.

Overall the narrative was a slow pick up that also continued from the previous series at the same time trying to please new readers with how it focuses on a time-displaced Dana Sterling as the lead character living in the era, where she pilots a VF (Variable Fighter) than her signature VHT-1 Veritech Hover Tank. It is something to look forward to facing new enemies, not from this timeline, but something new fans can follow over the course of the series about Dana’s characterization is a new twist in the Robotech mythology.

Robotech Remix #1 is written by Brenden Fletcher with art by Elmer Damaso is now available at your local comic shops for $3.99 US | PHP 240.00 Pesos. Acknowledgments and congratulations to Elmer Damaso with this new series, who was also present at the Super Manila event.
