Agents of SHIELD Review: Season 1 EP 3!

10.10.2013 – There are forces at play as Coulson and recently assembled Agents of SHIELD investigate what happened to Dr. Franklin Hall a new character seen in the preview of “The Asset” the latest episode from Marvel television and ABC.

After Director Nick Fury appeared in the previous episode our heroes try to find out what went down by attempting to rescue one of SHIELD’s kidnapped experts on the element of Gravitonum who would become the villain known as Graviton in the comic books.

“The Asset” does not carry a lot of Easter eggs connect to MCU but definitely gives focus on Grant, Skye, and Coulson. There were minor dull moments to the usual drama sequence between Grant and Skye.

“Gravitonum” as an element gets introduced in this show which does not exist in comics. This has been quite an interesting episode with great dialogue from Coulson and revealing hints about being resurrected having a “new body” it’s either he’s a clone or a machine but he says that being away he has become “rusty” from action.

It might not explained for now but Coulson dropping hints on what really happened to him is giving viewers something to think about until the next episode.

The action sequence is great and introducing a Marvel villain in the television series is just the beginning of things to come. It would be cool to have mini story-arcs exploring not only the characters but also how this team gets to know further.

This episode plays around Skye’s loyalty to the team and it sounded so easy for her to get inside a private party not because she’s a member of the Rising Tide. But it delves further on who she is and the same time how Grant Ward gets to be the mentor for her. Melinda May continues to be the silent member who has her own little secrets.

Ming-Na Wen just plays this agent that appears to have no emotion but her character’s story in the next episode.

Overall great episode and brought a super villain in Graviton which possibly we’ll see in the future. This one gets a Grade B+ for less convoluted Marvel terminologies and more human conversations between the characters.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D stars Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Brett Dalton, Chloe Bennet, Iain De Caestecker, and Elizabeth Henstridge which airs Tuesday nights in the US check your TV Guide for show times.
