Playmogram 3D | Raymond Stanz

Ghostbusters is one of the enduring franchises from the 1980s and continues to be relevant in the last six years or so due to the popularity of the merchandise that brings nostalgia to longtime fans and getting the new generation introduced that’s getting cult following for the original films, animated series, and other forms of media.

With the recent interest that produced a recent film and continued success in various interpretation of merchandise released out there Ghostbusters is here to stay. Recently, Playmobil had the license to produce their take of the characters based from the original films as well as some inspired from the classic cartoons.

The technology that is incorporated in modern toys for children that the play pattern expands not only their imagination, but also gives them ideas besides being entertained by the concept. Playmobil, a toy brand from the 1970s continues to adapt to the changes adding technology to their products is not the first time. But they continue to innovate to continue to be relevant.

When they acquired the rights to produce their version of the Ghostbusters it wasn’t just the usual themed sets based from the films and television, but they also have to go interactive in producing limited sets that makes ghost busting would feel good not just for the kids this would also entice adult collectors as well.

Playmogram 3D is that subset within the Ghostbusters realm featuring hologram to interact with the characters and you may need a mobile smartphone for that due to the concept of using holograms as ghosts for your Playmo Figures to interact.

Playmogram 3D | Raymond Stanz

This set is quite unique to the regular Playmobil sets as you may need a smartphone device to make the ‘magic’ happen. The box packaging explains it all in the graphic that features the character and what the gimmick can do to interact with some certain ghosts that Dr. Stanz has face throughout the films.

In the front box art it’s pretty much what you’ll get an Playmo Figure and the accessories set in the fantasy scene taking on some ghosts as well as the explanation how Playmogram 3D works. At the back more extensive details on what the gimmick can do and has instructions where to download the Playmobil app.

The contents of the product shows what you’ll get, which is a total of 26 including the Playmo Figure of Ray Stanz as well as unapplied sticker sheet and the pieces how the hologram will play out on the ghost trap that you need to assemble

Ghost Busting Gear

The standard Ghostbuster carries a proton pack, ghost trap (need to be assembled), Ecto Goggles, and the device that attached to it. This also includes Ray Stanz which doesn’t have any resemblance to actor Dan Aykryod who portrayed the nerdy occult scientist as you may find the Playmo Figure is very generic if you strip down to the regular jumpsuit in dark gray based from the GB II film.

Assembly of the ghost trap is mighty challenging for a child that it may need parental assistance due to the delicate stickers that you need to apply once the trap is put together and it’s pretty much explanatory that this needs care when you put together the pieces especially the stickers that are small for an adult’s thumb.

You can find that the proton pack is well made that Playmobil definitely hit it on the head making it exist in this realm becoming part of the brand. Their take on the ghost busting gear is on point and why they should put quality on this range of sets. Though the Playmo Figure needs improvements than just being a generic character is certainly need to adapt to the modern times that a generic smile needs a personality too.

Featured Gear:

  • Proton Pack with Wand
  • Ecto Goggles with Meters
  • Ghost Trap
  • Proton Stream Effect Piece

  • Pair of Gloves

Simple Magic Happens

The Playmopgram 3D has a simple requirement, which is a mobile smartphone capable to download the Playmobil app that instructs you how the effect works. There’s no difficulty just a hands-on in making the effect work that was truly great for a set that only have very few pieces.

Once you download the app you have options and it will take you to the Ghostbusters where it has six types or class of ghosts that you can ‘trap’ that includes Slimer. It is really fun to see it in person than through the images. The level of fun surely gets enhanced when you put the trap and dim you lights to see how it works.

Overall the Playmogram 3D is not as perfect as you would expect it to be based on the packaging and other blurbs, but it is definitely fun playing around trapping the ghosts despite there’s no sound that accompanied every ghost that you choose from the app. It is well-made for you to really appreciate how technology and a traditional toy would change in subtle ways was quite a joy for this one until you complete a set.

Raymond Stantz is part of the Ghosbusters Playmogram 3D range of Playmo Figures that includes similar accessories that let you capture ghosts was only sold in select markets and this was acquired in the US retailed at $10.99 USD ($ 14.77 AUD | ₱ 556.69 Pesos) and distributed by Playmobil USA.
