| “The Batman” is now showing in cinemas worldwide, and the merchandise has already been released. Spin Masters is one of the companies has the master license to produce action figures based from DC Comics characters. Their success with the 4” inch range of DC Heroes Unite continues with this release.
Its initial release, the first wave featured three characters including a variant of “The Batman” for the single assortment. In the previous Batman-movie related toys there were variations of the same figure. |
But this time its release focus on what was related in the film, and one of those that appeared is the “Wingsuit Batman.”Contradicting the past concepts of releasing multiple versions of the same figure, Spin Masters stayed true to the core characters that appeared in the film by also keeping the toyline streamlined, and not cluttered with random versions of Batman that did not appear in the film. The first wave was simple and straightforward that includes The Penguin, Selina Kyle, and two version of Batman.
Though with that being true to its featured characters, the basic Batman became redundant that was included in other vehicles and playsets. The same Batman figure that was sold for the single carded assortment was also included in the Batmobile and the two-pack figure with Lieutenant Gordon that came with a Police Car.
Black, Red, and Simple
The Wingsuit Batman, though it is the same figure that came with the basic Batman it is considered a variation due to the cloth/soft goods cape’s different. Evidently, you can immediately see it through the blister bubble as little bit wider than the conventional cape. This toyline distance it from the Heroes Unite series, which was the initial introduction of new figures by Spin Masters.
There’s only minor difference from how the product was presented, and unlike the previous toyline this one now reveals the accessories that came with it. The consistent black and red motif on the card with “The Batman” branding that also include the DC logo shows this is separating itself from the previous series. There’s nothing much at the back of the card other than the art and included a collector card that you may need to decipher to reveal its secret image.

Bat in a Wingsuit
The figure comes with three accessories that features the batarang, curved knife (similar to Selina Kyle’s accessory), and a red pistol that might be the grappling gun (that’s also included with The Penguin). The collector card reveals Batmna’s weapons and tools to fight crime when you insert it into a card sleeve that has red translucent plastic similar to the old Transformers tech spec card to reveal the character’s skills.
Wingsuit Batman only have minimal difference to the basic Batman figure, and the only difference is that the cape was designed for him to ‘glide’ as seen in the movie trailer, where he uses this ability to escape capture. The design is not very promising once you freed the figure from its blister packaging.

Design-wise this is a bulkier Batman and compared to previous iterations and makes this stands above all of them in the 3-4’ inch tall range. It’s not perfect with the way the head sculpt and how the eyes were printed. The face doesn’t exactly look like Robert Pattison, but the silhouette of how he looks with the cowl is there.
Spin Masters fixed the knee design without the protruding ‘knee cap’ as seen in the previously released DC figures. It’s cleaner, though they still have no waist articulation. There’s another missed opportunity right there for Spin Masters to refine for future released figures.
The suit is not exactly what you see in the film but close enough to make some serious details on Batman’s forearms and gauntlet despite missing paint in them for you to see. The only reason why you might pick this Wingsuit over the basic Batman because of the cape design other than that it’s just the same figure.
It can do action poses, but the Wingsuit is not exactly what you see in the film’s earlier trailers. It’s just the same Batman with a different cape that could have been designed to be removed. But the design makes sense to fit on the product cost to keep it under the price range for this scale. Besides that, this toyline is still targeting a younger demographic and not adult collectors.
If you’re aching for more detailed look, McFarlane have the 7’ inch range, though despite that its scale it still lacks the accessories that brings you back to Spin Master’s take on The Batman in this price point.
Overall design has minor improvements from the previous toyline, but still needs to have a waist articulation. The only real accessory in this figure is the Batarang, and the rest are just extra bits. The grappler gun could have been painted in black rather than in that type red hue. Wingsuit cape is somewhat a letdown that could convert into a standard cape, but opted to be just a slight different variant.
The price point is just right, and it also makes sense why the cost was keeping it below the range for anyone to afford it. Spin Masters can release a premium edition for collectors they just need to refine the base figure articulation as well as the right materials that doesn’t look too cheap.
