Reviewed: Despicable Me 2!

06.30.2013 – The toys are selling faster than your usual Happy Meal promo that could last for a month which by now less than 10 days.

The Philippine premier was graced by the two minion mascots.

Gameloft getting you a hands-on the Minion Rush while lining McDonald’s was hanging out your free minion.

For the most part of the screening everyone was happy to see the little yellow henchmen dressed in blue not to mention the introduction of the Evil Minions that baffled some fans from the first film. Of course you’re pretty much as excited as your next door neighbor who has amassed their own minion collection that like Pokemon you've gotta catch `em all!

Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures has another hit with Despicable Me 2 from start where the film was rolling up to beyond the credits you see minions taking over the world as you’re next lovable character unseating some who came before them.

At the center of this film is Gru (Steve Carrell) and the other cast what make the movie lovable other than the 10400 minions who stole most of the scenes. You've seen the movie trailers, TV spots and teaser clips that you’re not getting tired from seeing these henchmen that there was already a spin off simply titled “Minions” for a December 2014 release that’s sort of a prequel prior to meeting their current client in Gru.

But beyond these henchmen there are the other characters that make up the movie itself. Despicable Me 2 won’t be without the other characters. Gru is no longer the villain you saw in the 2010 blockbuster animated film but happier to spend time with his three adoptive daughters in Margo, Edith, and Agnes along with the minions.

Agent Lucy Wilde (Kristen Wiig who also voiced Ms. Hatie in the first film) recruits Gru as the new member of the AVL (Anti Villain League) headed by Silas Ramsbottom (Steve Coogan). Because there’s a new villain in town trying to take over his place which only drops a hint of his name “Eduardo” if you’re paying attention to the trailers that came out a few weeks back.

Dr. Nefario (Russell Brand) returns as well as introducing an unknown character voiced by Ken Jeong (best known for the portrayal of Leslie Chow in the Hangover Trilogy).

You can never miss seeing the minions in the film but what make your heart melt is the character of Agnes (Elsie Fisher) that anchors Gru to the ground and possibly the soul of the film that makes some parents related with their children.

Overall the animated feature is a mix of adventure, comedy, suspense, and a bit of musical that would keep you laughing towards the end of the film which is Rated PG in the US and G in the Philippines. Visually rich with great voice actors making this film a fun run to success.

Despicable Me 2 opens in the Philippines on July 3, 2013 in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D from Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures to be distributed by Solar Entertainment!
