Converse x DC Comics: The Riddler!

10.14.2013 – The iconic Chuck Taylor All-Star rubber shoes has been around since its introduction in 1917 then known as the All-Star composed of rubber sole and canvas which was an elite shoe at the time made for professional basketball league.

In modern times the sneakers has become part of the popular culture evolving to variety of colors and design. In 2011 Converse made collaboration with DC Comics to launch limited edition sneakers with variations based from the popular characters.

The beloved iconic sneakers were introduced in 1923 by a basketball player named Charles “Chuck” Taylor a basketball team sponsored by the Converse Company called The Converse All Stars. To make the history short he became the company’s salesman and athlete conducting basketball clinics who made also made improvements on the shoe that includes a patch that would protect the ankle for support which also provides enhanced flexibility.

When Converse partnered with DC Comics they released limited variations of the Chuck Taylor All-Star hi and low versions of the shoes featuring characters like Batman, Superman and the Flash while they also released villains like the Joker, Catwoman and Riddler.

Speaking of Batman’s nemesis like The Joker and Riddler have two variations of the Chuck Taylor All-Star shoes while the Catwoman only have the low version. Recently Converse in the Philippines had a limited sale event that started on September 25 up to October 6, 2013 which has the remaining Converse x DC Comics Chuck Taylor All Star shoes which had Batman, The Joker and Riddler.

The Riddler had the low version which have his signature question mark design incorporated in the sneakers which was reflects the personality of the character.

For the non-comic book reading public they were mistaken for The Joker due to its bright green colors and he’s more popular than Riddler who was only seen being portrayed by Jim Carrey in the 1995 film, Batman Forever.

But for those who saw the syndicated 1966 Batman TV series that starred Adam West and Burt Ward on cable channels won’t miss Frank Gorshin who first portrayed the character during its original airing. The sneakers have a definite nostalgia to the minor Batman villain in the Riddler.

The image of a Chuck Taylor All-Star low that has the Riddler designs is a rare and unique pair of sneakers. It’s not as classy as the hi-cut version that’s made of leather instead of canvas featuring the character’s face but it will definitely get some attention.

The Converse x DC Comics Chuck Taylor All-Star originally released in 2011 and was available during the special sale event in the Philippines. For more details, events and upcoming Converse sneakers LIKE Converse Philippines on Facebook!
