Sights & Highlights: Kyoto Inferno Press Media Day!

08.09.2014 – Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno press media screening happened a few days ago and the anticipation for this film has grown with a huge fan support. The following day in cooperation with Ayala Malls Cinema they also head a presscon.

The fans gathered while mall shoppers pass by to get a glimpse of the Japanese cast and director of the said film. The Glorietta Activity Center was packed that witness the public press media day for the actors and director for Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno and it was a full day.

Some fans came from all over the Philippines from Davao, Pampanga, and Laguna to name a few places these passionate individuals are based from. The stage was already set since the mall opened its doors to the public, but the fans have been there as early as 8 AM in the morning.

It was a hectic Thursday at the Glorietta mall and some have been seated near the venue waiting for the event to start. The festivities started by 6 PM hosted by radio personality and TV host Sam Oh. Before things started to roll there was a special performance from Philippine All-Stars that also includes the cosplay group that supported the release of the film.

Most of the crowd who came to see the cast and director are women screaming their lungs out just to see Takeru Satoh and Munetaka Aoishi with director Keishi Ōtomo, while Emi Takei was not present during the presscon. But she was present in an exclusive press junket at the hotel where they stayed.

Prior to the cast and director’s arrival Sam Oh went to the audience to get an interview with the fans who made the trip to the event. When the screen flashed the arrival of the entourage they all went wild most definitely the women who are anxious to see Takeru Satoh. If the press media screening was overwhelming to the cast and director this press event would have given them something to bring back to Japan. This was evident on Munetaka Aoishi’s excitement when the fans greeted him upon his arrival on stage after introducing Satoh.

When everyone settled down you can feel the electricity of the fans, specially the ladies who were seated near the stage. Most of them are either teary eyed or they can’t stop themselves from being excited to see them. Majority of the crowd are mostly women who have heard about Takeru Staoh, but their attention to the man who portrayed Kenshin Hemura was almost stolen by Munetaka Aioshi who spoke some Filipino words and his favorite is “Astig!” (Another “ism” in Tagalog word for Awesome).

There have been questions asked by the media and most of the ones seated near the stage were hoping to ask their questions, but it was reduced to the ones who have been in Sam Oh’s list. There’s one question thrown at director Keishi Ōtomo if Rurouni Kenshin gets adapted to become a Hollywood feature film what would he say.

Before the actors answered the questions there was a loud booing in the crowd and the actors agree that they would rather say no. But Keishi Ōtomo would say “let them try” as most fans of Rurouni Kenshin would not accept it to be turned into an American produced film.

The fans can’t get enough of Munetaka Aoishi’s antics when he gets to answers the questions about Sanosuke and he says that most of the character is based on his personality. This is evident the way he brings himself coming to the stage wearing slippers and interacting with the crowd.

Takeru Satoh who was asked which character he would prefer between Kenshin Himura and his previous role as Kamen Rider Den-O. He politely said Den-O needs to change while Kenshin is already there to take the fight directly to the bad guys. Keishi Ōtomo was also asked about which Rurouni Kenshin sequel was his favorite and advised the audience to see Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends, which excited the crowd knowing full well it would be shown the following month.

After the interview they proceed in calling five lucky winners who have the chance to meet the cast and director on stage. Then there was a photo opportunity with both Warner Bros Japan and Philippine representatives who are distributing the film on stage

Aside from having the cast on stage Warner Bros. Philippines also have put up the Rurouni Kenshin booth featuring the costumes and posters for the Kyoto Inferno film that was first seen at a local convention last June, which will be on display for a week then it will be moved to Glorietta 4 Cinema lobby prior to its regular screen date.

Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno coming to Philippine cinemas on August 20, 2014 from Warner Bros. Japan and locally distributed in the Philippines by Warner Bros. Picture Studios!
