Star Wars: Obi-Wan & Anakin #1!

01.07.2016 - For those who haven’t jump-in to the comic books surely you’ll get more detail stories than waiting for the next Saga Series to come like sometime in 2017. Star Wars comic books published by Marvel are canon to the movies, animated series (Rebels), and even includes the videogames which means just like the cinematic universe that ‘The House of Ideas’ has been making its all connected.

Since Disney acquiring LucasFilms in 2012 it was obvious that the publication of the comic books will likely move from Dark Horse to Marvel and with that the ‘Expanded Universe’ is no longer canon to the films. Its going to be streamlined and Disney made sure that everything comes together interconnected to each other.

It’s been almost two years since Marvel ushered in Star Wars taking place after “A New Hope” and before “Empire Strikes Back.” There is also mini-series featuring beloved characters from the Original Trilogy.

Now they are taking a closer look at a relationship between two of the characters from the Prequel Trilogy featuring Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker.

The synopsis doesn’t delve much on the details but re-introducing the characters who got a lot of wind seeing “The Force Awakens” for the first time, and details about their journey as Master and Padawan is more compelling at the height of the Jedi…

Before their military heroism in the Clone Wars, before their tragic battle on Mustafar, and many decades before their final confrontation on the Death Star...they were Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and his Padawan learner, Anakin Skywalker. It’s been a few years since Obi-Wan pledged to train the young “chosen one,” but even as they have grown closer through training, it has been a difficult road. Now, called to a remote planet for assistance, Master and Padawan may be pushed to the breaking point. Writer Charles Soule (Lando, She-Hulk, Daredevil) and artist Marco Checchetto (Star Wars: Shattered Empire, Avengers World, Punisher) bring us a tale of the Jedi at the height of their power.

Opening the pages of the first issue seeing the trademark crawl that you see in the Saga films and other related to Star Wars is getting used to, but reading about the characters from the Prequel Trilogy needs a little bit of patience. If seeing “The Phantom Menace” was not as inviting for you this comic book will give more details on how the Obi-Wan/Anakin relationship was forge.

Marco Checchetto’s art was different representing these characters from ‘Shattered Empire’, but it sets the town how this five-part series will go in revealing the untold adventures of these two legendary Jedis. Charles Soule tries his hand telling the story taking place three years after Episode 1 its where all things explained prior to “Attack of the Clones” or event during “The Clone Wars.” It’s too early to anticipate where this book will go as this just been released and fans hope this one gives an idea who are these characters that played the role in a galaxy far away.

For now let’s wait and appreciate how Marvel and Disney will give these characters a proper story that the fans are waiting to see. The variant covers certainly are eye catching including the photo edition featuring the actors who portrayed these characters and that impressive Skottie Young deserving some praise too.
