Erik Bauersfeld Voice of Ackbar Died at 93

04.05.2016 – Long time Star Wars fans have remembered what Admiral Gial Ackbar meant to them having delivered the most famous line “It’s A Trap” on Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi has become meme in the internet.

The actor behind the voice is Erik Bauersfeld, whose famous character also appeared in last years “The Force Awakens” has died at the age of 93. Bauersfeld also voiced the character Bib Fortuna in Return of the Jedi.


Born on June 28, 1922 began his career as a radio dramatist and voice actor. His death was confirmed by Hollywood Reporter early this morning. Bauersfeld shares his story how he got the voice part when he was working at Lucasfilm on a radio project with sound designer Randy Thom, when he was approached by Star Wars sound designer Ben Burtt. Burtt asked him to read for the part of Ackbar. According to Bauersfeld, he was shown a picture of Ackbar and instantly came up with the character's voice.

His other works besides being the voice of Admiral Ackbark and Jabba the Hutt's majordomo Bib Fortuna got him to have roles include the voice in last year's Guillermo Del Toro film Crimson Peak and Steven Spielberg's 2001 film A.I. Artificial Intelligence.
