Secret Fresh | Gallery Round Up

12.17.2018 – JJ Zamoranos aka EXLD Manila is a local street artist in the Philippines who has collaborated with other talented graffiti artists. He’s part of the ever growing talented community known as Pilipinas Street Plan (PSP). An artist who grew up with popular culture infuses his art style with contemporary art.

This is not the first time EXLD Manila has a solo show at Secret Fresh. He’s been around and became a household name painting streets of China, Thailand, Japan, and Korea to name of the Asian countries he has been around. The well travelled artist isn’t afraid to experiment and his current show “The Prussian Channel” shows that.

JJ’s most recent solo show at Secret Fresh also features two other artists namely Yoskay Yamamoto and Katrina Cuenca. Both have their individual works on exhibited at the main gallery of Secret Fresh. This will be the last opening night for Secret Fresh for the year 2018 and they definitely closed out the event with these talented artists that continue to make waves in the local scene.

With EXLD Manila “The Prussian Channel” is a welcoming perspective for someone who is intro anything that catches his interest when it comes to Japanese anime, superhero comic books, and what defines his mood in mixing up his art style that always something to look forward to when it’s his turn in the spotlight.

From California with Love

Yoskay Yamamoto’s solo show at the main gallery is hardly noticed, and her works seemed to underrate that speaks volumes of what she expresses in her latest works. She also launched a new art toy too. That moon playing an instrument floating in the night sky coupled with expressive paintings that are eye candy not to avoid each personality that evokes her art style.

Its sure carries a lot of emotions in each of her works that sends some love from the sunny side of California. The place it’s where Hollywood films are made and home of the Los Angeles Lakers and other sports teams. But what drives home is the melancholy that you don’t see in the surface. But if you stare enough it really makes you feel these mix emotions of sadness and it’s impressively done in these masterful pieces that you’ll hardly notice when you step inside the main gallery.

Chapter 1

Katrina Cuenca’s journey through her works is a pictured filled with soundtracks as most of her art pieces is accompanied with music that you listen to whenever you see each of them hanged in the walls at Secret Fresh. It’s a subtle type of representing how to appreciate Cuenca’s art work that you don’t see but to listen to it.

When you listen to her selection of music you get to understand each of her art pieces and you think this might be also her choice of tunes while making them. But we can be wrong about it, but the installation is not fairly news but is quite similar to another art gallery when you talk about being interactive in a different sense of thing.

But for Katrina’s work its something headed to the right direction when you talk about ‘spicing up’ the art work with an interactive installation that is paired with music that defines her character and her choice of sounds that is refreshingly good.

Hidden Fresh

The only solo show we failed to see is “Kastilyo” by Max Balatbat, where it was inside a hidden gallery inside Ronac Art Center. You’ll never find it unless you ask the staff where to go. It’s where some have some drinks and appreciate fine food. We were there once a few months back to see how this new section of Secret Fresh came to be which features one of DJ Big Boy Cheng’s vintage American gas pumps.

Surely, when the gallery is open again be sure to check out this gallery. But it could probably feature another artist next year. For now relish the solo shows from EXLD Manila, Yoskay Yamamoto, and Katrina Cuenca. All the featured works will be on exhibited until 3 January 2019.
