| 03.28.2019 – How often do you go to a local comic convention or attend any of these toy fairs that featured self-publishers of independent comicbook and graphic artists? If you have no time to go through and to meet the faces behind the stories and art why not have it sent them to your mailbox?
It’s easy enough that there hasn’t been that kind of concept in the Philippines. But there’s one independent publisher that has been slowly gaining prominence in the local scene and a few other countries are also taking notice. If you haven’t heard about Haliya Publishing they are Mervin Malonzo, Julius Villanueva, and Hulyen. Individually they are the creators of Tabi Po, Ella Arcangel, and UGH Comics graphic novels. But the think tank among the three is Mervin Malonzo who has been popularly known for his Tabi Po Horror Anthology that has been adapted into a television mini-series.
Prior to Haliya Publishing, Mervin was a one-man customer service who brought his books to his readers that followed the original “Tabi Po” graphic novel online that slowly became popular through word of mouth for its supernatural artistic genre. Mervin has established and organized his Mervstore.com on the distribution of his book that expanded teaming up with Julius Villanueva and Hulyen.
H Club Box Mysterious Surprise
The H Club Box set was inspired by the Loot Crate concept in the Philippines as a monthly offering for the three fledgling artists in establishing also Haliya Publishing. The concept for the H Club Box is quite unique on its own without the need to sustain a monthly subscription it is a “Build Your Own Box” of goodies that includes some goodies exclusive with each release that includes stickers, pins, and a hand crafted figurine done by Mervin Malonzo himself based from the characters of the three founders books that you can only find in this box.
For its fifth iteration of the H Club Box they expanded the contents to accommodate other independent published works from the Philippines outside the Haliya Publishing titles. They are now offering you to build your box that includes “The Merchant of Oltrarno” by Jay Ignacio, “The New DI-13” by Ian Velasquez, “Kadasig” by David Hontiveros and Romnck Magbanua, and “Opismeyts” by Ramark Masancay to name a few of the titles that you choose from. The fifth edition of the H Club Box has also an option for you to get random books by choosing the “Surprise Me” option.
