HW Getaways | Barbie Dream Camper

When you mention the word ‘Mattel’ two things come to mind, Barbie and Hot Wheels which are the two significant brands that identify this toy company. With that for so many decades both toys have been stayed true to their roots. But most recently Mattel has tried to mix it up to keep interest with the play pattern.

Barbie has been known for what made Mattel is today with the dolls they have produced and also the vehicles that accompanied it. With Hot Wheels is about diecast cars and what made it known and after 50 plus years Barbie crossover in the world of the 1/64 scale with the reimagining of what the Barbie Dream Camper Van would be!

The Barbie Dream Camper Van has been introduced in Barbie’s world as a vehicle playset to scale with the 12 inch dolls, which means it is a big set on wheels. There have been several iterations of this vehicle that fits in to the brand’s play pattern. Now, in 2021 Barbie gets to introduce the same vehicle downsized for the 1/64 scale.

Introduced as part of the 2021 mainline, the Barbie Dream Camper Van is certainly as eye catching on the pegs as its colour in pink. This is the premiere debut of the new model casting to the Hot Wheels range of diecast cars. This wasn’t the first time Barbie has crossed and made an appearance in Hot Wheels.

From Toy Set to Diecast Car

During the 2018 Hot Wheels mainline it first introduced the Corvette in Barbie colours its first collaboration. But this year legitimize collaboration further with the downsizing and scaled down to Hot wheels form introducing the Barbie Dreaam Camper Van complete with a brand new card art in packaging that sees Barbie and friends on the driver seat of the beloved pink van.

Though in today’s standards, the Barbie Dream Camper van is not entirely made in diecast parts due to its current cost in keeping the product under the budget. The van itself is entirely made of plastic while still having a metal base that have modern wheels as part of its aesthetic.

Moving Parts & More

It is also rare that the van features a moving part as this will add cost to the product’s functionality that most don’t have any more than a static vehicle on four wheels. But this Barbie Dream Camper Van would be an absolute dream with a functioning side door panel that opens to reveal what’s inside just like the original set.

It doesn’t say much on the translucent aqua green panel that opens up on the passenger side of the van, but it gives you an idea how this function has been kept inspired from the original Dream Camper Van. The new wheel type also adds realism to the overly pinkish vehicle that you could see from a far.

Features:

  • Based from the Original Dream Camper Van
  • Opening Side Door Panel
  • Detailed Interiors
  • Realistic Wheel Type

Despite the lack on the other details with this camper van you still see it is owned by Barbie with the branding and color scheme. From back to front and in both sides you can see the overall casting of the vehicle inspired by the rolling playset that Mattel introduced to the Barbie range of vehicles that continue to capture kids’ imagination.

Overall the Barbie Dream Camper Van is one of the best vehicles to be released in the 2021 Hot Wheels mainline that sometimes come unnoticed for those who casually collect this diecast brand. Despite not having so much details as the bigger van that the dolls use it still have the opening side panel that becomes the table and where Barbie and her friends sit and do their social discussion.
