DC Multiverse | Batman Beyond

Batman is an icon for the past 80 years and continues to be relevant for the next generations. When you mention his name Bruce Wayne comes to mind, but hardcore fans know there have been individuals who don the cape and cowl, but the future belongs to one Terry McGinnis that eventually succeeded Bruce in one of those possible future as “Batman of the Future.”

It’s the title of the series outside North America simply known as “Batman Beyond,” an original WB Animation series that succeeded the Batman: The Animated Series and other spinoffs in the early 2000s that redefined Batman.

Of course, there was action figures produced in the past as well as in the present with the latest from McFarlane Toys! The latest iteration of Batman Beyond from McFarlane Toys was impressive enough that there was also a variant that is part of the Build-A-Figure with a variant head. But this one is an amalgamation of elements taking inspiration from various media that produced the character’s likeness.

Batman Beyond is one of the latest action figures produced by McFarlane Toys for 2021, and like the previous releases it’s consistent with the standard window-type packaging showing its extensive accessories. Before going through the figure the packaging features its cross-sell wave mates with no description of the character.

Beyond Bruce

Terry McGinnis has all the bells and whistles of being Batman Beyond as you see through the window packaging. The consistent black box with window featuring toy photography perspective of the character taking flight in Neo-Gotham is impressive despite the action pose is not as you’d thought to take inspiration from the TV series.

There are no written details on the box other than the legal stuff and emphasizing that this product is for 12 years old and above. Like all the DC Multiverse it comes with a collectible card that also uses the image artwork from the back of the box.

Taking Flight

Upon removing the figure and accessories, a careful examine of the goodies it comes with aside from the collectible card this also includes a flight stand that needs assembly that has the ergonomic clamp and stand, which both are in translucent. It makes sense since you can mount Batman Beyond in varying poses (more of this later). Besides that it comes with extra pair of hands for holding its only accessory.

That accessory is the red batarang which he can hold on both hands. This also includes a pair of fiery booster effects that can peg underneath the figure’s feet. To round up the accessories that comes with this figure is already enough to outclass the previous iteration of this character done by the previous toy manufacturer.

Accessories and Features:

  • 22 Points of Articulation (No Thigh Swivel)
  • Cape/Wings Swivel (Not Removable)
  • Comes with ONE Batarang
  • Includes A Pair Boot Thruster Effects
  • Has A Pair of Hands in Holding Position
  • Flight Stand (Two Pieces with Minor Assembly)
  • Collectible File Card

Futuristic Action

As noted in one of the descriptions on the box is that this figure has 22 points of articulation, which has become a standard for the majority of figures produced by McFarlane Toys. This figure is not perfect but an improvement of the previous likeness that was produced almost eight years ago. This latest version takes so many inspirations aside from the original series that aired from 1999 to 2001. The details on his face are quite remarkable to really capture the animated version’s likeness, but also combined details of the character that appeared in the comicbooks or graphic novel compilations of the series that were published by DC Comics in 2011.

Beside the difference and improvements of the figure there is still downside to getting his version of a cape that in the animation disappears. The cape is not the conventional version as it opens to be his wings that has line shaped holes, where there’s a tab on the figure’s forearms that attaches to. It’s made of pliable soft-like gummy plastic that over time the tip of the wings my ends up folding like a dog’s ear.

Overall this version of Batman Beyond by McFarlane Toys is an improvement, but despite having all the necessary accessories that included the flight stand, the batarang that came with it is not the one he uses in the series. It is included in the Build-A-Joker Mech. But that one is the most accurate representation and likeness of Terry McGinnis’ Batman despite having more than one batarang than this one.

This is still an impressive Batman Beyond without having high expectations its way better than the one with a different head and original batarangs. This figure is more accessible as it is not a store exclusive for those who just want the likeness of Terry’s version of Batman in their display shelves ready to fight for the future.

Batman Beyond aka Batman of the Future was released in mid-2021 by McFarlane Toys as part of the DC Multiverse distributed in the Philippines by Ban Kee Trading retailed at ₱ 1,299.75 (**$ 34.24 AUD | $ 25.80 USD) that was acquired at Toy Town in Glorietta.
