MOTU First Ones | PH Retail Reveals

Masters of the Universe merchandise is slowly ramping up with toy reveals, as well as some interesting tie-in products, since the trailer was revealed last month. It’s no surprise that the rollout is like déjà vu when the live-action Transformers was heavily promoted back in 2007, had a similar trend to MOTU.

In Asia, the MOTU toyline was not what you expect as a “hit” when local marketing failed to reconnect with the general public, at the same time nurture partnership with longtime fans of the community who had grown up to collect the action figures and its other iterations when it came out all the way back to 1982.

The MOTU Origins toyline WAS a hit, not among the casual consumers, but among fans of the brand. Unfortunately, the toyline and its higher price point, Masterverse was discontinued in Asian retail back in 2021. With the news of the upcoming live-action film, which has been in developmental hell for decades, this was something of a surprise when the official trailer dropped last month.

Mattel has revealed a collector line that is solely focused on the live-action movie for adults, and they did not disappoint with the clear photos featuring the actors posing with their action figures. The toyline was revealed to be MOTU Chronicles, a separate line to the more established Masterverse.

The MOTU Chronicles is a six-inch, scaled-down action figure compared to the Masterverse, and that was what the fans expected until, at the end of January, somewhere in a retail store in Brazil had three MOTU figures featuring He-Man, Teela, and Beast Man. They are not MOTU Chronicles, but turn out to be a new assortment that is called MOTU First Ones, which is based on the descriptions revealed from the Target Store computers.

The MOTU First Ones will be a 5.5-inch figure assortment targeting the younger demographic, while the MOTU Chronicles will be for the Adult Fans. It’s also separate from the MOTU Origins toyline that debuted six years ago, which is now exclusively sold through Mattel Creations.

There hasn’t been any news after the revealed assortment until earlier today, with Adult Collector providing clearer images on their Instagram. Meanwhile, in the Philippines, a private event hosted by Richprime/Richwell had a closed-door meeting revealing some of the upcoming products from the MOTU First Ones toyline.

The images may be blurry, but they also revealed certain characters, and having two price points for the basic assortment, which may have a deluxe assortment. So far, aside from what is already out in the wild with the news, there’s also a glimpse of an image of Mekaneck and Skelegoon characters that has been shown in the PowerPoint presentation.

As noted in the PowerPoint presentation, two images reveal two different price points for the MOTU First Ones. Though unfounded, it might be that the higher price point will be for a deluxe figure set.

MOTU First Ones retail price point:

  • Basic Core Figure | ₱ 1,199.00 Pesos | $ 28.94 AUD | $ 20.57 USD
  • Deluxe Core Figure** | ₱ 1,499.00 Pesos | $ 36.18 AUD | $ 25.72 USD (**Unconfirmed)

With the New York Toy Fair a few days away, there will be more revelations on what else to expect from Mattel’s MOTU toyline. For now, the expected availability for these in Philippine retail will be either in the last week of March or early April.

Masters of the Universe is manufactured by Mattel, and this is distributed in the Philippines by Richwell Global Inc.
