The Flintstones #1 | A Clean Slate

06.30.2016 - “The Flintstones” where the original ‘first family’ on television since being introduced in September 30, 1960 until The Simpsons replaced them, but still known for being one of Hanna-Barbera’s iconic animated series. The series originally for six seasons and over the years it expanded to animated specials and two live action films. The latest comicbook incarnation takes its adaptation of the live action movie that have John Goodman in 1994 and the prequel ‘Viva Rock Vegas’ as portrayed by Mark Addy. In comicbook form it’s written by Mark Russell with art handled by Steve Pugh. The plot is that Fred Flintstones was asked his boss Mr. Slate to bring the newly employed Cro-Magnons to have a good time, while at home Wilma discovered her talent in art. For most of the time The Flintstones are more portrayed and likable in their original cartoon form and it feels rather weird to see them drawn on a serious tone like their theatrical counterparts, but none of them resembles the actors that portrayed them.

Scooby Doo Apocalypse #1 | End of the World

06.08.2016 – Scooby Doo is a classic animated franchise originally introduced in 1969 as “Scooby Doo Where Are You?” The series spawned several iterations of the series and was adapted in to live action films in the early 2000s. It’s a story about four teenagers and their weird talking dog solving mysteries. They are more like the Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys with more geared toward the younger audience. Early this year DC Comics announced that they plan to reboot the beloved classic along with Jonny Quest, Space Ghost, Wacky Races and other Hanna-Barbera contemporaries with a fresh perspective. “Future Quest #1” was met with success that made the characters of Space Ghost, Birdman and the Galaxy Trio, Jonny Quest, and Herculiods exist in a single universe. But with “Scooby Doo Apocalypse” this one certainly was definitely made a major overhaul change in the characters as well as their origins. From teenagers and their dog taking on solving mysteries they’ve become four different individuals. Future Quest #1 | Lights in the Sky!

05.23.2016 – DC Comics has begun revitalizing the Hanna-Barbera properties in comcbook form as reported earlier this year. Its no coincidence that their main line is also getting a fresh look with ‘Rebirth’, but there’s no connection with what they are doing with the classics it’s just that it needs a little polish and a fresh look. It begins with “Future Quest” like other properties having a singular universe DC Comics is trying their hand on uniting the Hanna-Barbera series into a sort of cinematic universe. It starts with Jonny Quest, Herculoids, Birdman, and Space Ghost where they face their biggest threat.
