Papercuts Comics Festival | Five Days of Comics

09.06.2019 – Papercuts Comics Festival is the First Ever event that promotes local artistry this side of South Australia and other regions in the country. The Event also promotes independent self-published works from creators letting everyone know that local comics are alive in Adelaide.

The event will surely open up to be an annual celebration of comics and graphic novels that would inspire kids and comic book fans. It has been a long time that Adelaide gets it first ever comics-related event that focuses on the grassroots and finally it’s a week away and here’s more about the event!


This will surely going to be week-long celebrations that will keep everyone engage and might be also an inspiration to the young ones who would venture to be creators of their own stories and some artworks too.

If you’re free in this week or can’t get enough to the events in Adelaide, then this might be the right timing to appreciate and support your local creators of comicbooks and graphic novels and here are some of the events happening in the next few days.



Comics in Conversations

This gathering of artistry from parts of Australia and from Adelaide, South Australia happens from 12-16 September 2019, which will take place around the City of Adelaide that includes Greenlight Comics as one of the major venues for the talks.

The four-day event starting 12 September 2019 will be “Artists in Conversation” at the Dymocks Bookstore in Rundle Mall. The scheduled event will have three guests talking about their works and how to break into the comicbook scene. They are Dean Rankine, Mandy Ord and Greg Holfeld where you can read more about these prominent creators HERE!

Original Art Exhibit at Greenlight Comics

This event will be held at Greenlight Comics on 13 Spetmeber 2019, where beside the original art on exhibit this event will also launch two books by Australian comic creators! While looking at the art and enjoying a complimentary drink or snack, why not pick up 'Dead Ends II' by Anthony N Castle and Chadwick Ashby from New London Comics or 'Storm Clouds: Collected' by Ben Mitchell?

Taking Pictures

Saturday will be a busy one to meet and greet with the creators who will be present at this event. This will be held at the Performance Art Theatre at Knit Moore Avenue and you can experience comics in a new way at Talking Pictures, where creators will combine art and performance for a multimedia storytelling experience.

Twelve comic creators and creative teams will deliver live readings of short (5-15 minute) comics on the theme of 'Travel'! Their accompanying art will be projected onscreen while they read their work.

Festival Market Day

Discover for yourself the vibrancy and diversity of the local creative community. Support the local grassroots with these creators. From psychedelic superheroes to tear-jerking autobiography, there’s something for everyone!

Sunday's Market Day will feature 40+ stallholders consisting of independent comic writers, artists and publishers from South Australia and interstate, plus an area showcasing young local emerging creators thanks to Greenlight Comics and to check the list of stallholders read HERE!



Comics with Friends & Strangers

The last day will be something special and it will allow you to immerse yourself in making your own comics. This will be your first time at Comics with Friends and Strangers, we always offer an optional activity.

This month's activity is jam comics: collaborative improvised comics created by multiple people working on the same page! (As always, you're also welcome to come and work on your own project instead if you'd prefer.)

It will be held at the Box Factory and this event doubles as Day 5 of the wider Papercuts Comics Festival running from 12 to 16 September, supported by City of Adelaide.
