Happy Meal | Facts About the Anniversary Toys

11.14.2019 – The Happy Meal is celebrating 40 years and with that there were 17 retro-toys producing some of the best lines that were popular among kids and adults that were available for the North American region. There were excitement and heavy anticipation that the same toys would be available in other countries.

The announcement for this would include 90 countries participating across the planet. Of course, Southeast Asia and Australasia in general would considered included in the list and news is that it was already sold out in some parts of the US.

There haven’t been announcements when it will be available, but here are some interesting facts…

In Asia every new Happy Meal toy people wait in anticipation that from an ordinary kid’s toy meal it became more than what children get with their meal. There have been a huge fanbase that collect these toys that other fast food restaurants tried to compete with the McDonald’s brand.

From in-house original characters Ronald McDonalds, Bridie, Hambuglar, and Grimace to licensed brands from Hasbro, Mattel, Disney and other things that you have thought about that became a Happy Meal toy McDonald’s has probably made it. The Happy Meal was the pioneer for those who grew up having them and started collecting the toys released each month and this this one is no exception.

But for the Southeast Asia and Australasia region should know more than just charging to their nearest McDonald’s store to grab everything that’s about to be released here are some facts you should know.

No Disney Toys are Included

For those hoping the exact 17 toys will be released for their country please do count out the Disney toys. Mickey Mouse and the 101 Dalmatian driving a car is not included for Southeast Asia and Australasia region as Disney has an exclusive agreement with McDonald’s USA regarding the rights to release these Happy Meal toys outside North America and this is one of the reasons the Avengers and The Incredibles 2 toys were not available for this region in 2018 and not going to be even sold in the future.

Majority that includes the entirety of Asia is not going to get any Disney license namely Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, or the Frozen II made into Happy Meal toys. So the two toys included in the Happy Meal Anniversary release will be excluded for Asian release that cuts down the 17 toys to 15 toys only.

But here’s one bit that you might be surprised too that the “Power Rangers” won’t be included in the Asian release as the rights is owned by toymaker Hasbro in the US, which puts conflict with Bandai that owns the Tokusatsu Series that is no longer makes the toys for the Americanized Series although this is still in question until the toys gets finally released in the region.

Not the Final List

Due to the questionable nature of the “Power Rangers” not being included it would still be in this list and will put an asterisk just for the sake of the inquiry and this is the line-up that would appear in the store on display below:

● Cowboy McNugget (McDonald’s): 1988
● Fireman McNugget (McDonald’s): 1988
● Mail Carrier McNugget (McDonald’s): 1988
● Hamburger Changeable (McDonald’s): 1989
● Grimace (McDonald’s): 1990
● Dino Happy Meal Box Changeable (McDonald’s): 1991
● McDonald’s Hot Wheels Thunderbird (Mattel): 1993
● Hamburglar (McDonald’s): 1995
● Power Rangers (Hasbro): 1995*
● Space Jam Bugs Bunny (Warner Brothers): 1996
● Patti the Platypus (Ty Beanie Baby): 1997
● Tamagotchi (Bandai): 1998
● My Little Pony (Hasbro): 1998
● Furby (Hasbro): 1999
● Hello Kitty (Sanrio): 2013

Dropping in the Philippines and the rest of Southeast Asia

If you’re nervous and panicking right now don’t. The Happy Meal toy that is celebrating forty years of the brand has not been released in Southeast Asia that includes the Philippines or in Australasia that includes Australia and New Zealand. Even the McDonald’s sites that tease what are the next toys have kept the details on what’s coming out for this region.

But the good news that is confirmed for the Philippines the Happy Meal toys gets to be released on 21 November 2019 and it will be available simultaneously nationwide and for those who are the kind of “to see is to believe” mentality please do go directly to your nearest McDonald’s store while the rest outside this country it will have an announcement at their FB page or websites.

For those running into drama why the Disney toys are not available in this region it is all explained in detail messaging your local McDonald’s (Philippines) won’t respond to this query you got all the facts here and all you need is just sit tight and wait for the date of its release by midnight or first thing in the morning.
