Happy Meal #1Shots | Spy Racers

02.25.2020 – The Fast & Furious franchise has expanded to a younger target audience with its most recent spinoff “Fast & Furious: Spy Racers” now streaming all eight episodes on Netflix since 26 December 2019. There’s no indication if this series is canon to the live-action films but Vin Diesel made a voice cameo as Dom Toretto.

Of course, if there’s a new series a tie-up merchandise is right behind this with McDonald’s Happy Meal being released in various markets including North America and now Southeast Asia including the Philippines featuring the cars in the series.

Though in the US and Canada revealed that there are six cars, but for Southeast Asian market it was reduced to four cars. If you look on the lien-up of the cars and design some are based from real life cars and there those design that pushes the boundaries or realism and entirely fictional with aesthetics and function.

If you’re not keen to compete all four cars (for Sotuheast Asia) or the entire Happy Meal promo for February/March it is best to get the best one since McDonald’s have stopped producing actual diecast cars altogether for almost a decade ago. Back then you can’t get enough of the Hot Wheels promotional as close to the actual product.

Incompletist | the Best Pick of the Lot

These days if you’re basing on quality and design you’re not obligated to ‘complete them all’ and this is a good lesson to impart kids about collecting. Instead of making them an assurance about completing a set of cars or the soft toys for girls it is best to give them an option of choice not because of limited funds but to appreciate what they can have through means in choosing the best of the lot.

The Happy Meal toys are not as impressive as it used to be and from how they present new toys the quality has actually given kids the options to choose ‘what they really like’ and it also getting to know your kids their taste and interest than give them a complete set when they’re just going to sit there in some display or see them get beat up purposely and see how these toys end up scattered all over the place.

For the Spy Racers since there are only four cars to choose from the literal standouts in the set is the Ion Thresher and the Baja Rally Crawler, which from the product display from the store they’re the ones that will literally be sold out even before the promo ends on 20 March 2020, which will be replaced by a new set of toys.

Ion Thresher

At first you thought it was colored black but when you open it from its plastic baggy the car is had this purplish color that makes it quite interesting especially when you take it outdoors. It appears to take inspiration from Dom Toretto’s Dodge Challenger, but it has this sleek modern look than being a classic muscle car.

Every Spy Racer comes with a sticker sheet, but since the decline of quality regarding the use of stickers being applied on this type of toys this car doesn’t need to have its stickers apply and by the looks of it a plain car looks impressive enough than putting those labels is like putting on a bad make-up for something that looks pretty already.

What makes it even impressive is the gimmick that is part of the car incorporated is when you press the supposed exposed air scoop that reveals a spring loaded front bumper extending as a way to use to clear the obstacle. It is a rarity these days that this gimmick is used to cars and presented here as a free toy for a Happy Meal makes this car a favorte among the lot since this might be the car Tony Toretto drives too.

Rally Baja Crawler

In the set of cars there was only one truck and that is the Rally Baja Crawler (quite a mouthful for a name), which is a bulky looking fictional utility vehicle that looks meaner than its name itself. In the animation it doesn’t do justice how it looks like a ‘big boy’ as chunky as it appears as a fast food toy.

This one also includes a sticker label sheet, but it was unapplied as adding hues of neon green sticker doesn’t make the truck look menacing. If you look at the photos outdoors the plain looking black truck looks good enough to be that tough off-road machine that can take the beating of an uncharted terrain looks like a cakewalk.

Just like the Ion Thresher this one has a gimmick too. Though it would have been cool if it had something to do with running over others cars, but you can find a black button on top of its roof to reveal that the truck rises up to be more off-road having a special suspension to take on rougher terrain as its main special ability.

Overall the Ion Thresher and the Rally Baja Crawler are the best two cars out of the four that is available for McDonald’s Happy Meal in Southeast Asia. The promo runs from 21 February to 20 March 2020 or until supplies last. Both vehicles are exemplary the best to get if you’re not into competing a set.

The Fast & Furious Spy Racers are now streaming on Netflix and the Happy Meal toys are not available in Southeast Asia along with the TY soft toys for girls at your nearest McDonald’s nationwide!
