Like me, it is every geek's Mecca is to go to San Diego ComiCon but sadly, not all will get the opportunity. So why not bring the ComicCon to Asia. Geeks all over this continent will now rejoice as the first Asia Pop ComiCon is now here starting with Manila as the first leg of event.
In the absence of Jason Momoa whose guesting was cancelled, Marvel's Agent Carter's Chad Michael Murray, Game Of Thrones' Natalie Emmanuel, Teen Wolf and Arrow's Colton Haynes, Marvel's The Avengers' Paul Bettany, Pro-wrestler Bill Goldberg who will be joined with his fellow cast of upcoming movie 'Checkpoint' and Jeremy Shada, the voice of Adventure Time's Finn who arrived days early with his band Make Out Monday.
Besides the Celebrity Guests, the celebrity artists whose art forms are respected globally in their own ways will be appearing as well. Jesse Yu better a.k.a. J*Ryu is known for his work, F.A.D. Dunny and will feature his latest work that will be debut here first in APCC Manila with collaboration with Kidrobot. This incredible 20" sculpted piece includes an equally impressive key that fits securely in the chest located keyhole. Will feature more about J*Ryu in my next post.
The convention will also showcase our Pinoy Global comic book artists like Whilce Portacio, Leinil Yu, Carlo Pagulayan, Mark Torres, Mico, Suayan and Stephen Segovia. They have ongoing projects with the biggest comic book industries including Marvel Comics and DC Comics.
Cosplaying is considered part of geek popular culture because it complements fans' ability to recreate their favorite characters and breathe life into it. Cosplay Authority Global Challenge or The CAGE for short, partners with APCC and the world's biggest cosplay competition will give US$ 10,000 for the champion of this event's cosplay event. Judges will be global cosplay phenomenon VampyBit Me, actress/model Allison Harvard, international prop and costume maker Bill Doran, Philippines' own cosplay queen Alodia Gosiengfiao and cosplay photographer Jay Tablante.
One of the big highlights of APCC Manila that you should anticipate is the revelation of the upcoming Captain America: Civil War trailer.
How APCC decides on which celebrity guests they bring in depends on their availability and schedule and what does the fan favorite of the host country so that makes each leg of the APCC event different in each country. The next leg of APCC is South Korea and Dubai will be the last leg. According to the organizers, APCC in Manila will be an annual event venue. Asia Pop ComiCon Manila starts September 18 up to September 20 at the World Trade Center. For more updates, follow this blog and like L.E.N.S. blogs on Facebook or the APCC website. See you at the World Trade Center.
