Event: Mico Suayan Signing at Comic X Hub!

07.04.2012 – This might have been around in the grapevine but we’re continue to spread the word about the upcoming comic book signing with Mico Suayan this Saturday at the Comic X Hub store as he signs the latest issues of Punisher #13 and 14. Mico Suayan got recognized in the international scene when first worked on Moon Knight back in 2007. Then he took his talent to the next level with great detail on his work on Dead of Night featuring Werewolf by Night. Then he left us picking up our jaw on his impressive work on Rage of Thor.

Creature Feature: JP Cuison's Mighty-T?!

07.03.2012 – Sometime in 2007 a guy named JP Cuison was selling his works at the UP Bahay ng Alumni during Komikon. He was selling DVD copies of his independent animation of Captain Barangay Captain!



This 2-disc DVD edition featured collaboration between Cuison and Kiko Machine Komix’s Manix Abrera where his art work was animated for this rare modern independent piece of Filipino Pop Culture nostalgia. There’s one character that had quite a naughty but interesting name parodied after Marvel’s Mighty Thor by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

A Pixar Employee Named Ronnie del Carmen.

06.29.2012 – Who is Ronnie del Carmen? The name sounded very Filipino which he is indeed from the Philippines. There are only a few people who have heard about his works in the comics industry dating back from almost a decade ago. What we know is he has a hand in the animation storyboard being an artist, and designer for some of Disney Pixar’s animation namely Finding Nemo (Story Supervisor), One Man Band (Production Design), Ratatouille (Story), WALL-E (Story/Character Design), UP (Story Supervisor), Dug's Special Mission (Director/writer), and the untitled Pixar Movie That Takes You Inside the Mind which we’ll see in 2015 (Co-director), Born Ronaldo del Carmen who graduated in the oldest college in the Philippines at the University of Santo Tomas. There are only bits and pieces of what we really know about his works but definitely got our interest when one fan made a shout out about his work on Aliens Mondo Heat published by Dark Horse Comics in 1996.

The Marvelous Journey of Dexter Soy.

06.28.2012 – By now everyone is talking about Dexter Soy a local comic book artist in the Philippines who gained national media attention after one his artworks got re-tweeted on Twitter and Marvel. Immediately they took notice of his ever evolving talent where CB Cebulski offered him a job that would lead Dexter Soy to breaking in the comic book industry. This is not the first time Dexter was featured but was already garnered immediate attention in other local blogs and has his worked been reposted in social media sites like Facebook.

Ernie Chan Remembered (1940- 2012).

05.18.2012 – Comic Book Legend Ernie Chan passed away and another great will be missed after Tony DeZuniga who recently died last May 11, 2012. There are no specific details about his death only news where his wake is going to be held. The news came from Whilce Portacio and Mark Torres on separate updates via Facebook. Ernesto “Ernie” Chan is known for his work on Marvel Comics version of Conan The Barbarian and also worked with DC Comics in the Batman books (Batman and Detective Comics) as wells as doing computer designs, TV, and movie animation.
