Vinyl On Vinyl | Sword Words

There’s a saying: the pen is mightier than the sword. It’s a famous phrase by an English author named Edward Bulwer-Lytton in 1839. It’s a famous expression that defines that words are more effective than violence. But what if words can be sharper than a sword, as the theme for Tyang Karyel’s latest solo show “Sword Words.”

Sometimes, art is sharper than words expressed through visual concepts or ideas that define an artist’s work. It comes from life and personal experience, defined by the innate passion to express it visually beyond words or even physical actions. From that, expressionism comes visual thought that comes from within.

Vinyl on Vinyl | A Comedy in Four Acts

When you reach the point of possible lost direction, sometimes you have to try to find yourself again and go back to the beginning. TRNZ returns and goes back to the beginning with another solo exhibit, which goes back to almost 6 years ago with the same gallery, and this time the art style stays the same, but more in the tone of focused fine art to its basic core of storytelling.

“A Comedy of Four Acts” takes you to TRNZ's latest masterpieces depicted in humorous situations, and yet the facial expression is cold and sad with no “feels” being shown to each character.

Vinyl On Vinyl | Unraveling Body Colonies

Sometimes the misunderstood can be overlooked to get a better perspective of what is happening in life. With art, it usually never gets the same degree of appreciation as the ones that really stand out and it is often the most challenging thing to the artist to convey their piece of narrative that doesn’t explain itself to the viewer’s reaction.

But most of the time, the art style and the way it is presented overweighs the artwork is trying to do, and in the case of this two-artist exhibition featuring EDOPOP and M.A. Roziq that are two different art styles in bringing their work in one exhibition is considered a yin and yang moment that very much explains how two opposites attract.

Vinyl on Vinyl | Family Day

08.08.2019 – There are contemporary artists and then there’s Reen Barera whose humble beginnings as a visual illustrator started selling creations at a local Komiks convention and they were just designed heads with no bodies. Most of his inspiration from creating them was from being deprived not having toys growing up.

He continued to develop his “Ohlala” character from an artful head to a full body art toy. This evolution also continues to expand with its storyline and other characters were created as Barera become known in the art scene locally and international. This time he brings all of them with his new works at Vinyl on Vinyl for “Family Day.”
