Manila Pop Con | Saturday Highlights

There were so many highlights as eventful as the Manila Pop Con descended at the Ayala Mall Manila Bay, where it was bannered by two international guests featuring Mackenyu (One Piece Live Action) and Mela Lee (American Voice Actress) who was also graced by participating local cosplayers bringing their “A-Game” on stage.

It is open to the public as the main stage is at the atrium at the ground level, and you’re not going to miss the loud noise emanating from the fancy stage with sophisticated lights and sounds. The area is packed as the mall goes past the area, where you will also find vendors selling their anime-related merchandise.

Four Galleries, Four Artists, and Four Locations that define the title of this Group Show: “Cross Over.” It is not like the multiverse is about to collide on top of each other. Ysobel Gallery | Reen Barrera's Super-Woke

10.07.2019 – There have been up and coming contemporary artists, but none of them as impressive as Reen Barrera being hosted by art galleries in Manila and the next one in Cebu this year. As the fourth quarter of 2019 closes things got busier for the hardworking artist that started sculpting only heads of now full figured characters.

He’s been in art galleries and even in school campus at Xavier School last week with his contemporaries. Last month he had a two-man show, but the past weekend he was at Ysobel Gallery for “Super-Woke his eighth solo art show and his first for this gallery that presented a new set of art pieces and toys.

Vinyl on Vinyl | Family Day

08.08.2019 – There are contemporary artists and then there’s Reen Barera whose humble beginnings as a visual illustrator started selling creations at a local Komiks convention and they were just designed heads with no bodies. Most of his inspiration from creating them was from being deprived not having toys growing up.

He continued to develop his “Ohlala” character from an artful head to a full body art toy. This evolution also continues to expand with its storyline and other characters were created as Barera become known in the art scene locally and international. This time he brings all of them with his new works at Vinyl on Vinyl for “Family Day.”
