APCC Manila 2017 | First Batch of Int Artists Revealed

Talent and creativity abound in the first reveal of international artists who will grace AsiaPOP Comicon Manila 2017 (APCC Manila), which is happening on August 25 to 27 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.

From international artists’ Stanley Lau aka artgerm, Quiccs, Alan Quah, Simone Legno, to Jason Freeny, these creative geniuses are set to share their talents and insights to thousands of pop culture fans from all over the region who will converge at the country’s biggest pop culture convention.

Big Wow! Comic Fest 2015: Jim Steranko & More!

04.20.2015 – Big Wow Comic Fest was spectacular this year with comic book legends in Jim Steranko (Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.) & Dave Gibbons (Watchmen). They have a few Hollywood celebrities included in the list (Tom Felton, Jake Lloyd & Daniel Cudmore). But mostly this event is focused on the comic book industry unlike the other conventions that are heavily presenting TV and Movies.

Snippets of Highlights from X-Men PH Premiere!

05.20.2014 – X-Men Days of Future Past has a special screening Tuesday night in the Philippines with the support of local cosplay group The Philippine X-Men Team all dressed and dolled up for the premiere. The event was held at the SM Megamall in Cinema 1, where the red carpet was set up that has the teaser and final theatrical poster including the standees decked for the screening. The media press screening was all set up as early as 4 PM as shared by one of the founding members of the cosplay group shared on social media.

06.28.2013 – The longest running Philippine men’s magazine in FHM has had illustrious Filipino women who has graced the cover since. It was introduced in March 2000 with Alicia Silverstone on the cover then a Filipino actress named Sunshine Cruz was introduced.



So what’s with the subject that brings us to FHM? Olivia Munn who now appears on The News Room used to be the geekiest girl who went to SDCC in Leia Organa’s slave girl outfit appeared on the covers of another men’s magazine.

05.21.2013 – The Post-Big Wow Comic Fest has given us a lasting impression this year which was graced by Stan Lee during Sunday’s main event. Long lines definitely formed longer than what happened last year. Every year bigger guests makes a visit and continuous to be the comic-centric event defining this THE “comic convention” emphasizing on the comic book industry that has become the American pop culture. Big Wow Comic Fest could be the event San Francisco have wanted for their comic book fans and this could be it!

ICCON 2012: The Pop Culture Event in Iloilo City!

12.02.2012 – The FIRST Iloilo Comic Con was a success featuring the best artists from Manila and based in this region which was held earlier today at the Robinsons Place Iloilo. The special guest featured comic book artists based in Manila with Gerry Alanguilan, Manix Abrera, Carlo Vergara, Heuber Khan Michael, Aaron Felizmenio, Carlo Pagulayan, Wilson Tortosa, Stephen Segovia and Danny Acuna. Black Pearl Philippines was also present for the cosplay judging and more!

PICCA Fest 2012: Event Coverage & Highlights!

10.07.2012 – The Philippine International Creative Content and Arts (PICCA) celebrate the last day with event highlights from featured trade and showcase from the komiks industry as well as a gallery of art works from the local and international scene. There was also workshops, Drawing contests for kids, Caricature sessions, and to round up the closing of PICCA Festival the event has partnered with GTMACCON, where a collection of passionate cosplayers dress up as their favourite Filipino characters based from indie komiks.

Best of Anime 2012: The Booths and Exhibits at Day 1!

09.15.2012 – Best of Anime on its third year boast not only the talented cosplay competition but also the band Uchu Sentai Noiz who first had their concert in Davao City and now making a big splash at this year’s event. Selected booths can also be seen at the Best of Anime 2012 which features the Bandai booth courtesy of local distributor Ban Kee Trading as well as gift shops that sell anime inspired merchandise and collectibles rarely seen in other expos.

Behind The Scenes on AHA! with Gotham Madness!

08.02.2012 – Gotham Madness a group of cosplayers who suit up as their favourite Batman characters has been tapped by the production team of AHA! an informative TV show which airs on Sundays at 9:15AM on GMA 7 Network as featured representative for the segment’s theme. Of course our very own Tim Villasor, founding contributing writer at GeekMatic and active member of the Justice PH cosplay group leads the Gotham Madness on this feature. He was also on the previous Kapuso Mo: Jessica Soho segment.

The Visual Music Carnival Rocks for a Cause!

05.03.2012 – The Visual Music Carnival is not only about music performances by an ensemble of Filipino talents. The event also has skilled skater boarders and a group of people who masquerade as their favorite characters known in the pop culture community. The VMC was organized to promote to raise funds and awareness for cause that would break the barriers of speech for the deaf. We’re talking about a break through tool is set to integrate modern technology in helping the hearing-impaired live their already challenged lives with less difficulty.

Random Trips - Green Lantern Light Up Party!

On Friday June 3, 2011, Warner Bros. Philippines and Ayala Malls held a special commemorative "Green Lantern Light Up Party" in anticipation for the worldwide release of "Green Lantern", the film adaptation of the DC Comics' superhero that stars Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan!

Together with my pal Mark, we covered the event, bearing witness to a gathering of several GL fans and cosplayers as they assembled in Glorietta 4 and made their way to the Glorietta Park, where a large propped up Green Lantern symbol stood and waited to be lit up. This video chronicles the entire experience from start to finish, and after lighting up the symbol, we were treated to an after party in the G4 food court where Krispy Kreme unveiled their GL tie-up promotional product - The Green Lantern Kreme Donut! Check out what went down in the video embed below!
