Whilce Portacio has been supportive of the local grassroots, and even set up a studio back in the mid-1990s, discovering local talents and collaborating with established ones like Gerry Alanguilan in producing some of the best comic book series around that time. After all those years, those same talented individuals have made their names in the American comic book industry. Some of them have become household names like Gerry, Leinil Yu, and Ed Tadeo. The resurgence of Filipino talent doing work in the international scene also introduced Harvey Tolibao, Mico Suayan, and Stephen Segovia in the mid-2000s.

10.21.2019 - The Super Manila Pop Culture event was a resounding success with other things happening around Metro Manila. It was the grandest homecoming for international comicbook artist and Image co-Founder in Whilce Portacio that reunited with his former colleagues from the 55 Balette art team. This was also something special for those looking forward to an annual comicbook fan gathering that has been long-awaited, which is the collaboration between Filbar’s and Comic Odyssey that was considered a last minute event that will be the next big thing for years to come that signifies that comicbooks are relevant.

APCC Manila 2016 | Media Day

08.25.2016 – The Asia Pop Comicon Manila is on its second year. This time the event moves to a bigger venue at SMX Convention Center in Pasay City happening on August 26-28, 2016. The Media Day introduced some new guests lined up along with familiar faces for this year. The event is hosted by Justin Quirino and it was held at Conrad Hotel’s Lounge area, which are also the residents for APCC Manila 2016. Leveling up the mastery of all things pop and geeky is almost here…

10.24.2011 – Whilce Portacio well known for the creation of X-Man turned villain from the future known as Bishop in Uncanny X-Men #282 back in 1992. He went to join the other comic book artists to co-found Image Comics along with Jim Lee, Todd McFarlane, Erik Larsen, Jim Valentino, Marc Silvestri, and Rob Liefield where he created Wetworks.

After so many years in the comic book industry who paved the way for other Filipinos to break in the international scene Whilce is back at the House of ideas doing pencils for Journey Into Mystery.
