An EPIC 3D Adventure Reviewed!

05.24.2013 – EPIC had a Philippine press screening over the weekend and have tie ups with ETC in bringing a special advance showing for those lucky viewers who won tickets when they conducted a context in their cable channel.

Prior to the screening they showed upcoming movies for Turbo, Pacific Rim and Man of Steel with films distributed by 20th Century Fox. Man of Steel is distributed by Warner Bros. Picture Studios which is heavily promoted with the Philippine screen date of June 12, 2013 in 3D.

Epic was shown in 3D from the producers of Ice Age and Rio. A surprise reveal of Rio 2 teaser trailer was also previewed prior to the screening which will be coming out in 2014. Before the previews ETC hosted some games and raffle off some neat prizes for their viewers who had the chance to see this film.

EPIC loosely based on William Joyce's children's book The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs has their younger audience impressed with the visuals. The animated feature has an ensemble voice cast of Amanda Seyfried, Colin Farrell, Josh Hutcherson, Christoph Waltz, Aziz Ansari, Chris O'Dowd, Pitbull, Jason Sudeikis, with Steven Tyler and Beyoncé Knowles.

Without throwing the plot details the visuals in CGI has continued to greatly improve from the previous animated films that Blue Sky Studios has produced. The human movements, photo realistic textures, and how the human hair has more fluid movement.

The facial reaction seems closer in detail just like live action possibly using motion capture that used by other animation studios to bring about this kind of quality to their animated films. The grass and leaves seems to move fluidly now than ever before with texture map seems that CG animation has evolved with faster processors that can animate these details like the real thing.

The human movement is getting there but with less techno babble the animation has move on and has become more close to actually mimicking live action films. EPIC delivers not only in visuals but also in story.

For a family oriented film who cares about so much details as kids would enjoy the characters as well as the message that conveys with all too familiar themes.

It’s a “fun” movie with humor by Mub and Grub that add spice to the ensemble voice cast that need more than just mixed with action & drama weaved into this EPIC fantasy adventure. Certainly the film gets the verdict of general favorable reviews at 7 out 10 and if you just want to have a laid back weekend this film is not only for the family.

EPIC is shown in 3D today (May 24, 2013) nationwide from 20th Century Fox to be distributed in the Philippines by Warner Bros. Picture Studious!
