Disney Motors | Finnick's Van

Zootopia is a 2016 Walt Disney Animation film, and well regarded as one of the best feature about a traffic police officer dreaming of becoming a full fledge officer of the law.

In-between the story of Judy Hopps is some high jinx adventures, and the interesting denizens of the place aptly titled for this film. There have been several characters, but it focuses on the story with Judy Hopps and con artist Nick Wilde.

There have been several merchandise that were released at the height of the release of the feature film. But Finnick's Van is an interesting look.

From action figures to playsets Zootopia was all over the retail space, and there were several diecast cars too produced by Takara Tomy that includes Nick Wilde and Finnck’s Lobo Z van that you see in the film.

Tomica has a sub-theme brand dedicated to various Disney characters under Disney Motors, and majority of them are from Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, and that includes Disney Princesses. Rarely, Takara Tomy will produce a range of vehicles that is based from one move, which is Zootopia that produced three vehicles including the Lobos Z van that Finnick drives, Judy Hopps meter made vehicle, and Judy’s Patrol car that appeared near the end of the film.

This is not the first time a Tomica range under Disney Motors would produce a theme of vehicle for a film. This would also have a set of vehicles that would be based from Big Hero 6. But not entirely reusing the same vehicles that was used to be Donald Duck’s van. Basically, this is the first time Tomica ever produced vehicles that appeared on Zootopia not a made-up vehicle to just say it is a theme for this film.

Lobos Z

The Lobos Z (“Lobos” means Wolves in Spanish) is a fictional version inspired from the 1976 Dodge B series van, but with porthole windows in the back. There have been several Easter Eggs that made this van an interesting casting among the three vehicles that came out based from Zootopia. Like the other two vehicles this was packaged in a box similar to most Tomica vehicles released in their basic and Disney tie-in brands.

Despite being small scaled, the Lobos Z is well designed and very much in detail featuring Nick Wilde and Finnick in the passenger and driver seats. You can squint your eyes and really see the shorter Finnick driving the Lobos Z. The details don’t stop there as the concept artwork on the side is based from Maui’s fishhook on Moana with art by Corey Loftis.

There are no opening doors on the vehicle and it is a solid diecast that have well detailed wheels, but despite not having any moving parts the design shows one door was unpainted that must be a replacement in comparison to the other side. It is still impressive how Takara Tomy intricately put two characters in the vehicles as most diecast cars don’t have them, which made it a must have.

Van-tacular

The only downside of this vehicle is the scale, and during that time of its release it is very much pricey at ₱ 449.75 Pesos ($ 12.25 AUD | $ 8.62 USD**), but it took six years for it to be put on clearance when it was sold in the Philippines for 60% off. There are only minor things that made some move away to acquiring this mostly due to the retail price and being smaller than most diecast cars.

It can be comparted to other branded diecast cars that this one is undersize, but it is well-detailed due to the inclusion of the characters as passengers that made it an interesting pick up if in case you still find one in the wild.

Overall it is undersize for its scale and way to pricey during its release in 2016, but now the way you see it being sold on clearance for its current retail sticker is worth getting since not Disney Motors are created equal. Finnick’s van has the most details if you compare it to Judy Hopps’ patrol car and yet that one was most sought after.

Finnick’s Van is part of the subtheme featuring vehicles appearing in Zootopia, which is a subtheme from Disney Motors produced by Takara Tomy that went on clearance at ₱ 200.00 Pesos ($ 5.45 AUD | $ 3.84 USD**) in early 2022 distributed by Ban Kee Toys.

This was acquired at Toytown Glorietta, where you can still find some Disney Motors on clearance. For more about the store follow Toytown on social media via Facebook and Instagram.
