Marvel Universe Black Widow (Comic Series) with Light up Collector's Base

Presenting Black Widow with light-up collector's base from the Marvel Universe Comic Series Collection.

In a nutshell this is a repaint of the original Marvel Universe Black Widow - from silver utility belt and Widow Bites to gold (Which is more in-keeping with the modern Black Widow since she only used silver when she was going around in gray as can be seen in this Marvel Legends Black Widow) - with Jean Grey's head from her Red-Pheonix outfit from the Cyclops/Dark Pheonix Greatest Battles Comic-Book pack.

This is the one time where I feel a salvaged and re-purposed body-part is worth it because the original head was just so.... dead. And she comes with a special "S.H.I.E.L.D." light-up base that combines with five other bases to make a cool collection.

The Mavel Universe Black Widow with Light-Up Collector's base's blister card reads: "Natasha Romanova is one of the world's most highly trained operatives. Working for S.H.I.E.L.D. or fighting with the Avengers, she is able to strike with stealthy precision and necessary force, a unique skill set that makes her the Black Widow. Light-up Collector's Base combines to form S.H.I.E.L.D. Platform."

The base is powered - or should I say overpowered - by a weird number of batteries - 3 AAA batteries - which is weird to me because they're normally sold in factors of 2 so you end up with an extra battery that has no use. Happily batteries were included. it lights up quite decently. Not as bright or as harsh as the light-up base of Halo's Cortana.

The light-up base comes with not 2 but 4 foot pegs for Black Widow, so some wide-stanced poses are possible on the base which is a nice touch in my opinion.

What's to like about the Black Widow with Light-Up Base Marvel Universe Comic Series figure?

Happily Black Widow no longer comes with a rifle that looks far too big for her and is totally inappropriate for an infiltration specialist.

And though her articulation is atypical of a Marvel Universe figure, it's quite good:

I'm particularly appreciative of the detail that Hasbro/Marvel put into her Widow's Bite. You can actually make out the openings of each individual barrel on her wrist. When you think about it, they didn't have to do that.

Now get some weapons from your G.I. Joe collection and she becomes even hotter:

And let's not forget the S.H.I.E.L.D. light-up base. Side-by-side with another Light-Up Base figure from the Comic Series, you have what looks like a video-game "versus" situation where you select the characters you want by lighting up their bases.

What's NOT to like about the Black Widow with Light-Up Base Marvel Universe Comic Series figure?

Well it's a re-issue figure with a repurposed head and nothing more. A lot of people won't be happy with that even if I think that this is better than the originally released Black Widow from Marvel Universe. Perhaps they could have done something as simple as opening up her suit and showing her cleavage. That sounds like something a customizer will definitely try.

The Marvel Universe Comic Series Black widow with light-up base is currently not available on Amazon - which is strange because the 2nd series Marvel Universe Comic Series Light Up base figures is available on Amazon for US$ 28.99 (Roughly PhP 1, 246). This particular figure was purchased from Toys R' Us Philippines in Robinson's Galleria for PhP 1195.95. (Roughly US$ 27.75.
