09.30.2013 – Kapow! Universe is the latest concept store to open at the Glorietta 5 in Ayala. It’s the first ever Marvel store in the Philippines owned by the same people from Collecticons Inc. who brought you back Filbar’s last July. It’s the first ever license store that features brands from Funko Pop and Mindstyle having never before seen Marvel products from perfume to clothing apparel. It’s like stepping inside the S.H.I.E.L.D. facility that features artifacts and elements from “The House of Ideas” that was built for every fan who grew up reading their comic books!

Every true believer definitely gets a knockout punch entering the store with the coolest collectible finds you won’t see in other stores. This marvelous new shop is a mecca for imagination, adventure and childhood memories with your favorite comic book heroes.

The event started Sunday with sort of quiz night organized by the great organization brought you by Geek Fight: Trivia Night. There were also invited people to cosplay as their Marvel characters who mostly stole the role of Itchyworm’s guitarist and TV host Jugs Jugueta, the host of the program. There were mini games that walk-in of Glorietta 5 who can participate in taking home some prizes.

After the program invited guests get to see the store and what Kapow! Universe can offer as media get to witness the ribbon cutting ceremonies.

Expanding upon this vision, Collecticons, Inc. acquired the franchise rights to KAPOW! Universe the authorized retailer of Marvel Merchandise. KAPOW! is the place for original and exclusive Marvel apparel, comics and collectibles, in a completely unique shopping environment straight out of the comic books. KAPOW! Universe Manila is the first store of its kind in Southeast Asia that celebrates the past, present and future of Marvel Comic Superheroes.

Born from a collaboration between Walt Disney Fashion and Consumer Productsand MINDstyle International, LLC, a creative agency that collaborates with global brands, the very first KAPOW! store opened in late 2012 in Beijing, China.

For the Manila store, Collecticons, Inc. developed and adapted the look and feel of a S.H.I.E.L.D. facility, the covert spy agency from Marvel comic books. Hence, entering the store is like taking a step into the Marvel Universe. It allows customers to experience the reality of superhuman beings and cosmic events through very human eyes, which in itself encapsulates "The Marvel Way" of storytelling.

This is before Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was shown in the US television last week. It’s an accident coincidence that Collecticons Inc. chose this theme for their first ever Marvel concept store and it helps also promote the new show which started airing in the US this recent Tuesday on ABC.

The store is unique in its own way not because it’s decorated with Marvel related items but its theme and functionality. If you want to try out the shirts for your size you get to do it inside a fitting room that appears to be a Gamma containment unit where Dr. Bruce Banner (a.k.a Th Hulk) was put inside after the events of the World War Hulk saga that happened in the comic books that was a major Marvel event in 2007.

But before you go through the clothing apparel the entrance welcomes you to several flat screens that show snippets scenes from the movies, animation and other related media from Marvel. It appears to be a console from the S.H.I.E.L.D Helicarrier or part of command center inside a facility.

You’ll see Thor’s hammer the Mjolnir stuck in a huge rock where the apparel like bags, caps and plushy toys of Iron Man and Spider-Man is located. Not to mention mugs, glasses and other drinking containers.

There is also a glass display of Captain America’s armor with a fashionable messenger bag that goes with the theme. You get to see some other collectible items like mini-statues and action figures manufactured by Hasbro. There are also a wide range of Marvel related Funko Pop art toys never seen in other stores that are only exclusive here.

Outside the glass display you see a full scale of Tony Stark’s armor which is the MK 42 from the Iron Man 3 film that was shown early this year.
