|04.01.2016 – This year Toho Ltd. the owners of the rights to the “Godzilla” franchise are slowly promoting the reboot of their own movie franchise exclusively shown in Japan. With that in the mind there haven’t been any updates since the teaser trailer.
Godzilla is big in Japan and Toho definitely bringing something different and fresh to the brand. This came in the form of a special commission art by Masahiro Maeda a well known artist who recently released “Godzilla VS Evangelion” artwork!
The special limited print will be available to coincide with the advance purchase of tickets to see “Godzilla Resurgence” which will be Toho’s very own reboot of the Godzilla film. The limited edition print depicts the famous EVA Unit-01 from Neon Genesis Evangelion anime series fighting Godzilla.
This limited art print is only available in Japan and its certainly an eye catcher if you’re a fan of both franchise where you can see the larger image below:
For those unfamiliar with Masahiro Maeda, he is known for his works in the original "Macross" (1982 and 1983). Maeda is an animator and designer and has worked as animation director. Maeda’s recent work as one of the visual designers for “Mad Max Fury Road” for director George Miller was one of the highlights in his career. In Godzilla Resurgence he ser served as image designer. His other notable works include "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind" (1984 / director Hayao Miyazaki), original "Castle in the Sky" (1986 / director Hayao Miyazaki), original "Gamera Monster aerial battle" (1995 / Shusuke Kaneko Director), monster design "Evangelion: 2.0" (2009 / Anno Hideaki general director), and image board original "Evangelion: Q" (2012 / Anno Hideaki general director).
