ThrowBack | Stikfas PH at Christmas Toy Fair 2007

11.28.2019 – Go back to simpler times of toy collecting without anything that something to do with selling or making money out of it. To a time when toy collecting was just appreciating the hobby and not offending anyone on or making the hobby as sort of a status symbol just to be prove that you belong to the elite.

Twelve years ago there was also Stikfas, a toy brand of action figure kits from Banny J based in Singapore that produced colourful and customizable plastic ‘stick figures’ at around that time it was just brand new in the Philippines that slowly everyone caught up with the trend and Mach Diesel of SMU Toys shared his story…

NOTE: This article was written and originally published on 31 January 2008 on the SMU Toys page on the now defunct Multiply.com and some parts of this post had minor changes with corrections. The following post is based from the author’s perspective and his first time being an exhibitor and promoting the Stikfas brand.

Cover Photo Description: “First day showing, with my first six characters, and MC's Delta Boy, Optimus Prime Custom, and also Baseball Guy in the back.”

SMU Toys Philippines (Yours Truly and Laney) made its first showing at a toy event at the 2nd Annual Toys and Collectibles Christmas Fair at the Megatrade Hall in SM Megamall, from December 21 to 23, 2007. My good friend and SMU Toys Philippines Associate, MC (the man I co-founded Stikfas Philippines and Philippine Bricksters) granted me some display space at the TransFormers Philippines booth, but not having known about this event prior to coming to the Philippines, I didn't really have anything unique to showcase. So, I took it as an opportunity to share my new and growing collection of Stikfas here. It seemed right, with Stikfas gaining popularity, and the [then] coming of Stikfas Philippines.

I thought it would be a good way to showcase what I've got so far, give a few examples of some minor customization, with hopes of getting some people into Stikfas that either hadn't heard of them before or haven't given them much thought. MC had a few of his on display as well, and sure enough some people were turned onto them...

Laney and I.

Our friend Gideon (Ice of Toy Soldier 1:18) checks them out... You know you're thinking of custom GI Joe Stikfas... ;)

With MC, he's on another important toy business call... :p

My haul at the live auction, Legionnaire Pack for PHP 150.00 Pesos ($3.75 USD), blisters for PHP 75.00 Pesos ($1.88 USD). Plus I picked up a new Dark Land blister at the WIMAX booth for regular price.

Last day display, along with three new characters.

And the addition of my Dune Buggy.

It was great share my Stikfas with Laney and MC, as well as meeting more fellow toy enthusiasts, and meeting some new Stikfanatics as well. Of course it was nice meeting the WIMAX Philippines people and dealing with them. as well as seeing new folks buy up Stikfas packs from them. Unfortunately, it was also a busy weekend for Christmas shopping, so we didn't actually spend so much time at the booth or cruising all the other booths and vendors (I didn't buy anything except for more Stikfas at the auction and from the WIMAX booth). Looking forward to more shows, representing SMU Toys, Stikfas Philippines, and Philippine Bricksters... So, maybe we'll see you at an upcoming toy event soon!
