Batman & The Outsiders | Lesser Gods Part 3

07.11.2019 – The third issue of Batman and the Outsiders brings you to the team in pieces after Ishmael has taken away and presented Sofia to Ra’s al Ghul. The battle of the minds with The Chief Demon was trial by fire for Sofia. Like any super villain, The Demon is playing the long game.

“Lesser Gods” deals with a lot of moving parts after the events from the previous issue. Batman’s roles in this latest iteration of this series are more ‘hands-off’ giving Black Lighting and Katana to get more spotlight as how they put the team back after Ishmael has beaten them to save Sofia.

Bryan Hill certainly crafts a slow build-up narrative in getting to know more about the core characters that feature Orphan and Signal to make the roster accompanied them by Kaliber.

Dexter Soy’s art style has evolved over the years has improved from the Japanese Manga style to his own. Of course, the creative team won’t be without Veronica Gandini’s colors that pop out that stands out.

This series dynamic with Batman only giving pieces of advice behind the scenes makes it all the more interesting to read…

The covers since its second issue mislead you to the actual narrative inside the books. But it gets your attention besides Dexter’s artwork that pretty much an attraction to new readers. Things get interesting when you get to read it with the focus about Batman putting a new team of Outsiders was challenging enough for Black Lightning to manage it is each of the character’s internal struggle to be its moving parts.

The Trial of Sofia

Ra’s al Ghul playing mind games with Sofia to become his weapon was a psychological war of control over her. Interesting how well The Demon is really is a formidable villain for Batman.

Team Bonding with Bruce

Signal’s inner struggles about failing the team get to be tested by Bruce Wayne himself with the rest of the team. This is a different look at how this modern iteration of The Outsiders works as what it was when it was first introduced in the early 1980s. This time around the dynamic is loose just like the first issue cover caption “New Team. No Rules” and Bryan Hill did well on that concept.

Decision’s of Fate

There are two parts of the story with Signal’s struggles and Sofia’s decision it comes to that point you’ll only get to see one side that gathers itself while the other was a cliffhanger that you might have expected already that is saving up for the next issue.

Overall this issue gives you decisions of two characters at the same time how the team put themselves back together again in preparing to deal with ‘The Enemy’ at the same time there’s a ‘shoo-in’ to tease the “Year of the Villain” story arc. It might not be much of a standout, but it gave you The Demon’s motivation why he has taken Sofia wanting to turn her into his weapon.

The other preview is for the upcoming Batman Superman #1 and the latest iteration of this team-up was quite a tease too. For now, the next issue builds up as the team comes together in getting ready what lies ahead to save Sofia from Ra’s.

RATING: 7.5
