| 07.24.2019 – There’s something interesting about toys with Space themes that suit everyone’s curiosity. With that in mind this is also the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing which is 16 July 1969.
The event marks the celebration where man made history by sending three courageous men to the lunar surface. For that Playmobil revives their Space themed set for the 2019 series and besides that this also includes a separate Space-related two-pack of Playmo Figures that started appearing in Philippine retail with this Space Heroes! |
The Space Heroes set is part of the Duo-Pack series separate from the main Space theme released for 2019. This set features two astronauts packed with accessories that depicts their preparation to do a spacewalk.
For those who have been collecting Playmobil for the past several years this comes to no surprise that the German toy brand has produced and reissued some of these sets giving them a new spin for the theme. Space-related toys are popular and Playmobil takes advantage in releasing a two-pack set of astronauts that certainly stands out from the other duo-pack series for this year.
Space Heroic Adventurers
Playmobil 9448 set describes as “Space Heroes” featuring two new astronauts that certainly build up interest in this particular theme. For those who are familiar with the previous Space theme set it is not a surprise that the white astronaut takes the colors from the 2015/2016 theme set that produced a rocket with Launchpad, space shuttle, and satellite defense system that destroys asteroids.
But what is so special with this one is that the astronaut has a more smiling face and the hairpiece is new. He comes with a backpack with translucent orange antenna and a pair of gravity platforms for those spacewalks.
The other includes a simpler variant of the spacesuit for this astronaut that had a neon helmet and a pair of orange gloves, booster backpack, and orange gravity platform. This astronaut wears goggles to break the usual tradition for a Playmo Figure.
This astronaut stands out from the two, but what this one lacks is the protective pieces for the arms. But he comes with gloves instead of the usual bulky pieces that the standard astronaut includes in the previous iterations.
Astronauts of the Future
Comparing the Astronaut that came from Playmobil 6183 Cosmic Flying Disc (Frisbee) it is similar to the white Astronaut from this Duo-Pack, but lacks the backpack and a pair of gravity platform boots. But all three have similar helmet and connecting hose designs for oxygen and life support.
The black astronaut that came with this Duo-Pack definitely matches the color of the Cosmic Flying Disc, but not highly advisable to be thrown with it for some Frisbee action due to the pair of gloves might fall off and might get lost in the play outdoors.
But all three Astronauts look good together even though the Cosmic Flying Disc Astronaut doesn’t have the elevated pair of gravity platforms and backpack. Each of the space men has a unique look that doesn’t make them entirely unformed together. Playmobil should produce individual astronauts that show a different side of their characteristics that gives each personality.
Overall the Space Heroic Duo-Pack is a rare find compared to the Playmobil Space Duo-Pack that featured an Astronaut and Robot as starter set for the main series for 2019. This pair might be the bridge for the changes in the Space theme from the previous one to the current set of Playmobil Space sets that expands more for future themes related to this.
