Ysobel Gallery | Reen Barrera's Super-Woke

10.07.2019 – There have been up and coming contemporary artists, but none of them as impressive as Reen Barrera being hosted by art galleries in Manila and the next one in Cebu this year. As the fourth quarter of 2019 closes things got busier for the hardworking artist that started sculpting only heads of now full figured characters.

He’s been in art galleries and even in school campus at Xavier School last week with his contemporaries. Last month he had a two-man show, but the past weekend he was at Ysobel Gallery for “Super-Woke his eighth solo art show and his first for this gallery that presented a new set of art pieces and toys.

Barrera shares that this was a shorter preparation in comparison to the one he did with Vinyl on Vinyl and this time around his idea of super heroes as his own concept with a cameo from his more familiar character making an appearance in one of the art pieces at this show.

He welcomes new challenges in doing works for his solo art shows and never runs out of ideas when it comes to his characters and expanding them represented with new eyes. Still humbled, with all the opportunities that came his way he never take them for granted and has been the same Reen Barrera that started selling Ohlala heads as Komikon. When asked of participating at this year’s Komikon he still want to go even though it is cutting close with his other commitments.

He already has ideas what to bring for Komikon given the time to participate this year. Reen is very much supportive of the grassroots that he first came to prominence and hoping there was enough time for him to make it. For now, you can find his latest works at Ysobel Gallery from 5-16 October 2019.

His next projects has invited him to do a show in Cebu and that’s where you’ll find him next as for Komikon he just smiled “We’ll see…” with optimism he also handed out stickers of his character as one of the tease if ever he attends this year’s event.

“Super-Woke” is Reen Barrera’s eighth overall Solo Art Show and first with Ysobel Gallery. For more about their next art exhibits follow them on social media via Facebook for upcoming shows and art events.
