05.06.2019 – Twelve years since 2007 Free Comic book Day in the Philippines has gotten bigger than anyone have imagined. The lines have gotten longer the crowds become massive that there’s a fine line there between which actually reads and those join in just because the word has something to do with “FREE.” In this generation of digital age the lingering question if there are still people really reading these type of medium? FCBD is considered “the Christmas for Pop Culture Nerds” no doubt the crowd would be there for pageantry.

FCBD Adelaide | Celebrated Comic Shops

05.05.2019 – Free Comic Book Day in Adelaide has become part of the locals’ annual event that it gets featured on the broadsheet The City whenever the days close in to the celebration not just about getting free comics but pop culture happening in general. If last year was any indication the huge turnout 2019 gets the best party. One year separated from FCBD 2018 everyone was all set and ready to go as three stores within the vicinity of Adelaide was well prepared to party hard like it was Christmas in May for the passionate nerd down in South Australia.

05.02.2019 – Free Comic Book Day in the Philippines has become part of the local event culture, where everyone lines up to their participating bookstores and comic shops. Every year since it became a regular thing in 2007 there have been a growing community among those who became a comicbook reader and its evident why many Filipino still adore reading a physical copy than digital. Of course FCBD in Manila had become a community on its own having different interesting diverse personalities among those who have been consistently lined up at this event.

04.29.2019 – Comic Odyssey is one of the oldest comic shops based in Manila that has a long storied history that first opened its first branch at the old Market Place in Mandaluyong and then maintained a branch in Robinsons Manila in Ermita (1997-2015). There was a second store that opened in Robinsons Galleria (2006-Present) that has bounced around the mall from its original location to its current place. Then there were other branches opened but didn’t last longer than three years, but maintained another store inside Fully Booked (2013–Present), where the usual event gathers are held from Comic Book Signings to the annual Free Comic Book Day.

04.23.2019 – Filbar’s is the oldest comic shop in the Philippines and in the past forty years it has evolved from just a section of a clothing store in Iloilo to a pop culture shop that not only caters into comics. But has become a multiverse of all things that makes nerds go crazy what’s popular in the local scenes such as collectibles, toys, and high end props. Recently, Filbar’s expanded its ever growing store to a new location, which at the newly renovated The Podium mall just at the back of SM Megamall. Since Free Comic Book Day is less than a few days away you might want to get familiarize with this store as one of those shops participating this year.
