FMCC Presents: One Love. One FrancisM. One Birthday!

10.04.2010 - The Philippine music scene won't have the flavah of hiphop and rap if not for Francis Magalona, who is known in the local scene as the "King of Rap". Two years ago he was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia.

He passed away at the age 44 on March 6, 2009 and if he was alive today he would have celebrated his 46th birthday. Beyond the talented rapper he was an entreprenuer, songwriter, producer, actor, director and photographer.

Outiside his profession Francis or more fondly called by his close friends as "Kiko" is a geek ammassing a collection that dates back to his childhood, which shows his passion not only for what he does, but also into collecting comic books and toys. The exhibit reveals his most prized collections as wells as his favourite characters that are seen on display.

Being a certified massive geek who loves to play videogames, reading comic books, and showiong his passion for toys was evident sharing this through his social media accounts on Multiply. I've met Kiko in several occasions dating back to the 1990s when he used to be a radio DJ on the former 89.1 DMZ (Danze Muizic Zone), where he goes on-board Froday nights.

Though we're not close on a personal level you can say he's a casual friend, and I was one of the very few priviledge fans of his fans, who followed his career from the late 1990s. I first met Kiko back in 1991 during his Friday show on the said radio FM station going with the moniker as "The Mouth."

The very last time I get to hangout with him and his kids was during the preview day forToy Con 2008. We share a lot of common interest namely, pop culture franchise from the 80s like the Transformers, and he had the chance to play around with then unreleased Soundwave from Transformers: The Animated series that was aired on Cartoon Network.

Franci M may not be around but his legacy and his memories lives on with his family and friends.

Beginning today from October 4th until the 7th, the FMCC (FrancisM Clothing Co.) will have a special exhibit featuring archival photos, videos, and anything that made Francis Magalona, The Man from Manil as one of the Filipino Icons. I got the chance to see it all, namely his signed comic books, and a portion of his toy collection that was also on display. If you have time to pay a visit and give tribute to the Man From Manila you can see the exhbiit at 2224 Malugay Street, which is located at the back of Caltex gas station.

This is also the fourth anniversary of the FMCC (FrancisM Clothing Co.), which he founded in 2006 along with three others. You can also avail their latest line of shirts and other FMCC at the OuterSpace Gallery, where his exhibit is currently on display until Sunday.

Its located at the same place Vinyl on Vinyl store opened recently in February. The exhibit will be open to the public from 12 noon to 9PM until Sunday. They will also have a special treat to those who will be at Malugay Street this Friday.

Elmo Magalona and the Mags will lead a perfomance at 7PM along with Gloc-9, Pin-Ups, ILL-J, Dr Rye, Nimbus 9, J-Rad, and MC Dash at B-Side this Friday October 8, 2010.
