Zhang Ziyi as Sophie in My Lucky Star!

09.15.2013 – Zhang Ziyi most often roles are on martial arts and in the height of the Chinese empire of the past. A few days ago her latest movie “My Lucky Star” had a special premiere at the Marina Bay Sands.

“My Lucky Star” supposed to be a prequel to the 2009 film “Sophie’s Revenge” which tells the story of a comic book illustrator and at the same time works in advertisement firm as her day job. Sound surprising enough for you to know that she’s a geek in this film...

It seems like Ziyi’s character takes inspiration to the real comic book artists who lives and breathe like what her character plays in the film.

This is quite interesting how her character is somewhat based on Filipino comic book illustrators like Sophie (Zhang Ziyi) who’s day job is in the advertising firm but at night she draws comics. But the focus of the story is more of a slice of life theme that has romance and comedy.

Aside from Zhang Ziyi her other co-stars from Sophies Revenge Ruby Lin and Yao Chen reprise their supporting roles from the original film.

Dennie Gordon is best known for her directorial in television shows which credits that include Chicago Hope, Picket Fences, Dawson's Creek, Sports Night, Ally McBeal, The Practice, 30 Rock, and Grounded for Life among other series. She is the first American woman to direct a feature for the domestic market in China.

The behind the scenes of the movie was seen in the travel show "Invite Mr. Wright: China" that was aired on the TLC Channel Asia that featured Ian Wright talk to the production crew as wells as the cast of the show with Zhang Ziyi in her crocodile costume.

The film is set to be shown in selected regions in Asia and in the US on September 17, 2013 and Sophie’s adventure takes place in Beijing, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Macau. My Lucky Star is presented by Polybona Films and produced by Ling Lucas, Beaver Kwei, Second Chan, and William Cheng.
