Movie Review: The Peanuts Movie!

01.09.2016 - “Snoopy and Charlie Brown: The Peanuts Movie” is not just a story about a certain Beagle who moonlights a World War I fighter pilot named ‘Flying Ace’ its also about Charlie Brown.

This timeless comic strip from the great mind of Charles M. Schulz is finally here with all the bells and whistles you’ve seen before. But this one has a fresh coat of CG paint that will definitely catch this generation’s attention.

“Snoopy and Charlie Brown: The Peanuts Movie” for those uninitiated is a story about a boy and his dog. Mostly his dog who takes center stage but it’s also Charlie Brown, the boy who has a streak of bad luck. It’s basically an underdog movie full of hope that would warm your heart.

Every element of what makes a Peanuts Movie is known for from the archival voices provided by Bill Melendez of Snoopy, Woodstock, and the ‘Snoopy Scouts’ (Woodstock’s posse) to Mrs. Othmar’s signature ‘wah-wah’ speaking voice provided by Jazz performer Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews its as authentic as the last Charlie Brown Holiday Special aired on television.

It’s about romance with Charlie’s love-of-his-life Red Haired girl named Heather Wold. But not mentioned in the film though in the TV specials and comic strips it’s the same girl. The timeless characters in Sally, Schroeder, Linus, Peppermint Patty, Marcie and even Pig Pen are there along with the colourful characters that populate the world where the Peanuts gang rules. This also includes all the personalities Snoopy has been known for being ‘Joe Cool’ and the legendary ‘Flying Ace’ makes this one film you should not miss to see in theatres.

This is a film Blue Sky Studios certainly has hit the home run in bringing it to the big screen together with Charles M. Schulz estate. It combines the elements from the previous Charlie Brown specials, and comic strips that would definitely be appreciated by everyone. While you’re seated through the credits don’t forget to wait for the last scene that definitely a Charlie Brown moment.

Overall a delightful film worthy of its predecessors that catches the imagination of long time readers of Peanuts comic strips and those who have seen the classic Charlie Brown holiday specials, which this generation would definitely cherish. It’s about a group of friends and their famous dog that this is “The Peanuts Movie.”
